    • Methods and systems are provided for determining a transmission format using an effective SNR. The method comprises determining (105) a pilot SNR for at least one time period in a frame, mapping (110, 115, 120, and 125) the scaled SNRs of the frame to a second SNR for at least one transmission format, and selecting (130) the transmission format based on the second SNRs. The system comprises a receiver (24) configured to detect pilot signals, a data storage (36), and a processor (26) coupled to the receiver and data storage. The data storage (36) comprises tables of capacity mapping functions and Q factors for each transmission format The processor (26) comprises a set of instructions to convert SNRs of different pilot signals to a second SNR using the tables and Q factors and select the transmission format based on the second SNR.

    • The present invention discloses a system and a method for memory-based predistortion to reduce the distortion effects introduced by a power amplifier. The distortion effects include both memoryless and memory effects. The input and the corresponding output values of the power amplifier are measured to determine models used for predistortion. Using these models, first, an amplitude memory signal representing the amplitude memory effects of the power amplifier is obtained. Then, the amplitude memory signal is subtracted from the input signal. On the resulting signal, memoryless amplitude predistortion and memory-based phase predistortion are performed to get a predistorted signal. Further, an inverse model of the linear response of the power amplifier is implemented on the predistorted signal. Finally, the output of the inverse model is amplified by the power amplifier to obtain an output signal having reduced memoryless and memory-based effects.

    • In order to address the above-mentioned need, a method and apparatus for assigning time-domain resources to a wireless receiver is provided herein. During operation a resource assigned to a particular node will comprise a particular-length subframe having a unique combination of a number of contiguous slots and a slot start time. The subframe will repeat after a predetermined number of slots to form a subframe pattern. For a given frequency resource (group of subchannels), each node to which the base station is transmitting a packet will have a unique subframe length, starting slot, and repetition time period. Because each node will be assigned a subframe pattern having a particular length, and because each node's transmissions will begin at varying slots, the resources may be assigned to multiple nodes without having any transmissions overlap.
