    • An instant-on radiant fuser apparatus for fusing toner images in an electrostatographic copying machine, which does not require the use of any standby heating devices and yet is capable of fusing the first copy in a matter of seconds. The radiant fuser apparatus is made of a low mass reflector thermally spaced from a housing, with the housing and the reflector together forming a conduit for the passage of cooling air therein. A low mass platen is provided which is constructed to achieve operating temperature conditions in a matter of a few seconds without the use of any standby heating device. A housing for the platen is also provided to form a conduit for the passage of cooling air to control the temperature of the platen.

    • Disclosed is a method for the preparation of a relief printing master which is based on irradiation of a film of a composition comprisingA. a degradable polymer containing segments characterized by the structural formula ##EQU1## wherein R is H, an alkyl radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a chlorine or fluorine substituted alkyl radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a cyano substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, andB. a photosensitizer which upon exposure to actinic radiation assumes a .sup.3 (n, .pi.*) or a .sup.1 (n, .pi.*) state.The polymer and photosensitizer combination, which is in the form of a thin film upon a suitable substrate, is exposed in an imagewise manner to actinic radiation to thereby degrade the polymer. Upon such degradation, depressions are formed in the exposed areas thereby rendering the exposed film suitable for use as a relief printing master.

    • Magnetic toner particles are disclosed. The magnetic toner particles contain at least one polymeric binder and at least one magnetic additive, wherein the surface of the toner particle contains particles of positively chargeable inorganic fine powder particles. The inorganic fine powder particles have a mean volume average particle size of from about 0.5 to about 7 &mgr;m, and a cleaning ratio of from about 0.1 to about 5.0 and a cleaning ratio being the volume fraction of particles between 0 and 1.0 &mgr;m, divided by the volume fraction of particles greater than 1.0 &mgr;m; and the toner particles having on the surface thereof a flowability improving agent having a BET surface area of at least about 30 m2/g. Methods of forming electrostatic images are further disclosed. Also, images formed from the magnetic toner particles are further disclosed and have excellent character void frequency, total void area, and suitable magnetic signal strengths. Developers containing the magnetic toner particles of the present invention are also disclosed.
