摘要： A document processing machine for identifying and authenticating documents having both transparent and opaque regions and routing the documents appropriately is provided. In one embodiment, the document processing machine includes an image capturing device, a light source, a data processing system, and a document control system. The image capturing device captures the image of at least a portion of a document wherein the docent comprises transparent and on-transparent regions. The light source emits light toward the image capturing device and is positioned such that the document passes between the light source and the image capturing device. The data processing system is functionally connected to the image capturing device, and obtains the image of the document from the image capturing device, compares the image to a nominal pattern to determine whether the document is authentic, and determines the manner in which the document should be processed based upon whether the document is authentic. The document control system is functionally connected to the data processing system, and receives signals from the data processing system regarding the processing and routing of the document and executes instructions contained in the signals in order to route the document to a proper output bin.

摘要： A cassette (20) for a currency handling system includes a door (28) that can be opened to expose the entire front surface of the cassette. An end door (30) is operable to be opened to allow currency that is disposed within the interior of the cassette (20) to be urged outward. The cassette (20) has a locking mechanism disposed in an end (72), which locking mechanism prevents the door from opening until the cassette (20) is disposed in a docking station. Once in the docking station, a paddle (56) is urged downward into the cassette (20) to urge the notes outward therefrom. These notes are moved into a buffer region (58) and then the cassette (20) can be removed to allow another cassette (20) to be disposed therein. This allows a continuous feeding operation. The cassette (20) can then be disposed in a second collection docking station to collect the output of the sorter (41). In this docking station, a paddle (68) is reciprocated downward into the cassette (20) with the collected notes.

摘要： Measuring the limpness of a note (10) is necessary to separate a worn note (10a) out of circulation. Several methods are disclosed which can be used either alone or in combination to test for limpness. One method measures the note's ability to reflect light (12 and 20) or transmit the light (12 and 22). Another method measures the response of the note (10) to an acoustic wave (24, 26, 28 and 30). Another method measures the note's deflection to a pressure of force (32, 34 and 38). Yet another method measures the dielectric value of the note (10) when placed between the plates (38 and 40) of a capacitor. A final method involves measuring the thermal conductivity (42 and 44) of the note (10). In each case, a limp note (10a) will produce distinguishable results from a stiff note (10).

摘要： In the semi-continuous processing of currency, which has at least one denomination and authenticating attributes, a currency processing machine is used. A currency batch is created by initially separating a plurality of currency stacks, each with a first separator card placed on top of the currency stack as a header card, and with a second separator card placed on the bottom of the currency stack as a trailer card. Each currency stack is identified with information encoded on one of the separator cards. A plurality of the stacks are assembled to form the currency batch. The currency batch, including the separator cards, is fed into a currency processing machine, a trailer card of one currency stack being immediately followed by the header card for the next currency stack.
