    • Electronic apparatus and method are provided for management of communications between channel master (e.g. audio player), responding device (e.g. remote control/headphones) and, optionally, passive devices (e.g. headphones) wirelessly connected in a wireless audio network. The channel master transmits, and the responding device receives, audio signals and network management information. Profile negotiation means communicates application profiles for the devices, establishing at least one application profile which is common to them and designating a selected, common application profile for use in associating the devices. Channel selection means selects a channel for the communications using an ordered selection of channels (PCS) obtained from scanning the channels for idle channels and ordering the scanned channels according to priority based on channel quality. Normalized control and status interfaces establish interoperability between devices which use different data streams to communicate in the network.

    • A request method for performing optical power management to accomplish planned addition and removal of wavelengths in an optical communications system is disclosed, wherein each wavelength has a path of transmission through the system. The method comprises communicating a request for a power ramp to at least one path network component in the path, determining that the path network component has made preparations for the power ramp, and performing a power ramp in response to the determination. Further, a response method for performing power management to accomplish planned addition and removal of wavelengths in an optical communications system is disclosed, wherein each wavelength has a path of transmission through the system. The method comprises receiving a request for a power ramp, making preparations for the power ramp, determining that the power ramp has been completed, and resuming normal operation in response to the determination.

    • The invention relates to the field of wireless communications and more specifically to an high quality, low power wireless audio system. More specifically, the invention comprises an audio source for receiving audio signals (e.g. music) and audio status information (e.g. song title) from a first external device (e.g. an MP3 player) and transmitting the audio signals and the audio status information over a wireless connection; and at least one audio sink for receiving the audio signals and said audio status information from the audio source and communicating the audio signals and the audio status information to a second external device (e.g. headphones), wherein a specified one of the at least one audio sink receives audio control information (e.g. pause) from the second external device and transmits said audio control information to said audio source via said wireless connection. Among other features, the wireless audio system of the present invention incorporates dynamic channel selection as well as dynamic adjustment of the transmission interval to ensure enhanced audio quality using the lowest possible power.
