    • An object detection system and method is applied to an active surveillance system for detecting at least one target object appeared in an area of interest. The object detection system includes a processor for defining the area of interest into at least a first and a second zone; a controller for assigning a first and a second weight to the first and the second zone, respectively, wherein the first weight is higher than the second weight; and a first image capturing device for capturing an image of the target object appeared in the first zone prior to capturing an image of the target object appeared in the second zone. With these arrangements, the detection of at least one target object appeared in more than one zone having a specific weight assigned thereto may be implemented with improved efficiency and accuracy in object selection and reduced interferences from environmental variables.

    • A system and method for variable-resolution image saving includes an image capturing member, a data saving member, and an image data processor. A first panoramic image data is captured by the image capturing member in high resolution. The image data is then analyzed and divided into target area and background area. The resolution of background area is lowered to reduce the size of image data. A second panoramic image is then formed with the target area in original high resolution and background area in lower resolution. In this way, memory size and time required for storing and transmitting the second panoramic image data are greatly reduced without loosing important features of the target area.

    • A method of processing a sound track includes providing a low frequency threshold and a high frequency threshold of an audible frequency range; selecting a low-pitch sound band from a lowest frequency of an original sound track to the low frequency threshold and raising the low-pitch sound band by a predetermined frequency shift to a modified low-pitch sound band, or selecting a high-pitch sound band from the high frequency threshold to the highest frequency of the original sound track and lowering the high-pitch sound band by a predetermined frequency shift to a modified high-pitch sound band; and combining original sound track and modified low-pitch sound band or combining original sound track and modified high-pitch sound band. The low and high frequency thresholds are not correlated. The predetermined frequency shift is one octave or multiple octaves or equals 2n, where n is a positive integer or a negative integer.
