    • A magnetic tape cassette particularly well adapted for use with digital audio magnetic tapes, which is small in size and easy to assemble. The cassette includes upper and lower half cases and a slide guard for covering a lower part of an opening through which the magnetic tape is extracted for recording and reproduction. The slide guard is in the form of a substantially U-shaped plate member having side pieces at its opposite ends which extend along side walls of the cassette. The slide guard is urged towards the front end of the cassette and is slidably mounted so as to be slidable forwardly and backwardly of the cassette. Overhangs are formed on upper edges of the side pieces of the slide guard confronting each other and which are received in the cassette through slits formed in the side walls of the cassette. Upper edges of the overhangs have the form of tapered surfaces inclined inwardly of the slide guard. The distance between the upper ends of the tapered surfaces is larger than the distance between the right and left parts of the lower half case on which the slide guard is mounted requiring flexing of the slide guard side pieces during mounting of the lower half case.

    • A magnetic tape cassette of a type particularly useful for high density digital audio recording wherein the tape is positively protected from dust and other contamination. The cassette includes a pair of hubs on which the magnetic tape is wound, and a locking member for locking the hubs. An opening is provided through which the tape can be extracted for playing. A swingable guard panel is provided which closes the front part of the opening when the cassette is not in use, and a slidable slide guard closes the lower part of the opening. The locking member has locking parts engaged with annular parts formed on the hubs to prevent rotation of the hubs, the locking member being slidable in a direction forwardly and backwardly of the cassette. The slide guard is in the form of a plate slidable on the outer surface of the bottom of the cassette forwardly and backwardly. A compound spring is provided which has a fulcrum part locked to a boss formed in the cassette case and two arms extending from the fulcrum part. One of the two arms urges the locking member toward the rear end of the cassette, while the other arm urges the slide guide towards the front end of the cassette.

    • A magnetic tape cassette of the type in which the tape is extracted from the cassette through tape drawing openings formed at opposite sides of a central opening in the cassette for recording and reproducing. In accordance with the invention, each of the tape drawing openings in a rectangular opening defined by a lower rib protruding from the lower half case and confronting one edge of the magnetic tape, a guide formed integrally with the lower rib and having a sliding surface with which a rear surface of the magnetic tape contacts, an upper rib protruding from the upper half case and confronting the other edge of the magnetic tape, and a cassette case wall confronting a front surface of the magnetic tape. The upper rib is recessed farther inwardly of the guide than the sliding surface.

    • A miniature audio tape cassette is provided with a slide guard which normally covers the reel insertion holes of the cassette when the cassette is not in use. The slide guard is engaged with the cassette body by inserting portions of the same between the assembled upper and lower cassette halves. In one embodiment, the slide guard is provided with an engaging part which includes a portion slidable along the inside surface of the upper cassette half. The upper surface of this sliding portion is tapered in order to facilitate assembly of the slide guard, the upper cassette half, and the lower cassette half. According to a second embodiment, the slide guard is provided with inwardly extending portions which form overhangs with respect to the lower cassette halves. The engaging portion abuts against a flanged surface of the upper cassette half and has a tapered portion which engages a similarly tapered surface of the sides of the lower cassette halves. Alternatively, the overhang may be provided in a shape of a cup, forming a groove, and the flat upper surfaces of the side walls of the lower cassette body are slidably received within the groove so formed.

    • A magnetic tape cassette in which loop formation during slackening of the tape is prevented and the tape is wound on the winding hub without being displaced laterally, thereby preventing jamming of the cassette and deformation of the tape. The cassette includes a pair of hubs on which the magnetic tape is wound, two guide rollers, one at either end of an opening formed in the front of the cassette, and two inner guides, one provided between each of the guide rollers and a respective one of the hubs. Each inner guide includes a cylindrical barrel having a tape sliding surface, and a protrusion extending from the cylindrical barrel. The protrusion, which has a tape sliding surface wider than the tape, is turnable rearwardly of the cassette. A tape guide groove is formed in the tape sliding surface of the cylindrical barrel having a width slightly greater than that of the tape. Stops engage the protrusion so that, on a tape winding side, the tape is made to slide in the guide groove, while on the tape supplying side, when the tape slackens, the protrusion engages with the tape to prevent the formation of a loop.
