    • A vehicle passenger restraining system is basically comprises a plurality of passenger restraining devices, a deformation detecting device and a passenger restraining device operating unit. The passenger restraining devices are configured and arranged to restrain a passenger inside a vehicle. The deformation detecting device is coupled to a vehicle body of the vehicle with the deformation detecting device being configured and arranged to detect a deformation condition of the vehicle body. The passenger restraining device operating unit is configured to obtain impact information of the vehicle based on the deformation condition detected by the deformation detecting device, and to selectively operate at least one of the passenger restraining devices in accordance with the impact information.

    • A vehicle headrest apparatus has a headrest unit that is mounted to an upper end of a seatback. The headrest unit has a head restraining member with a flexible sheet restraining member configured to be tensioned to restrain a passenger's head when a controller detects a rear-end collision. The head restraining member has a vertical support portion facing the head of the passenger and a horizontal support portion substantially perpendicular to an upper part of the vertical support portion. When a rear-end collision occurs, tension is applied to at least the vertical support portion. In some embodiments, the vertical and horizontal support portions are both formed by the flexible sheet restraining member. In other embodiments, only the vertical support portion is partially formed by the flexible sheet restraining member, and the vertical and horizontal support portions are made of a resilient material having an excellent shape-retaining property.

    • A vehicle headrest apparatus has a headrest unit mounted to an upper end of a seatback. The headrest unit has a headrest members with a head restraining member configured to be tensioned to restrain a passenger's head upon a rear-end collision. The headrest unit quickly and reliably restrains a seated passenger's head during a rear-end collision without utilizing the inertia force of the passenger's body by detecting the rear-end collision and pushing the headrest unit only outward in the forward direction of the vehicle. The headrest unit also has a swing/pushup device that to pushes the headrest members upwardly and forwardly. An auxiliary swing force adding device applies an auxiliary spring force in the deployment direction of the headrest members to increase the deployment speed of the headrest members and shorten the amount of time required to achieve initial contact between the passenger's head H and the head restraining member.

    • A vehicle body end structure has a longitudinal frame member connected to a transverse frame member by curved parts to disperse the load when the vehicle undergoes an end (rear or front) collision. In particular, wedge-shaped open spaces exist between the interior surfaces of the transverse frame member and the corresponding wall surfaces of the curved parts that face the interior surfaces. Consequently, when the vehicle undergoes an end collision, the inward collapsing of the transverse frame member causes the curved parts to gradually undergo bending deformation while being folded over such that the curved parts touch against the transverse frame member. Deformation control structures are provided on the curved parts to prevent localized stress concentration from occurring and enable the curved parts to deform in a stable manner. Thus, the curved parts are prevented from undergoing acute bending and the input load is absorbed more efficiently.

    • A vehicle front end structure is configured to handle a front collision by using one or more inflatable bags to bear the collision load and produce a stable reaction force. The front inflatable bag is provided in a region where a colliding object can contact the front end of a vehicle body and configured such that it can deploy and inflate into a wall surface-like shape immediately before a collision. As a result, the collision load of a front collision can be absorbed efficiently. Additionally, since the inflated front inflatable bag serves to bear the collision load as a surface, it can generate a stable reaction force irregardless of the angle at which the collision load is imparted, the size of the colliding object, or size of the overlap ratio.
