摘要： Apparatus for applying liquid to a workpiece surface by contact, including at least one freely rotatable roller having a cylindrical outer wall whose surface is arranged to contact workpieces or workstock, including elongated sheet stock, and to be rotatably moved thereby while transferring liquid to the surface of the workstock or workpiece by contact. The apparatus includes a source or supply of the liquid to be applied and a controllable liquid-dispensing device connected between the source and the roller for conveying desired quantities of liquid from the source to the roller, and also includes means for controlling the liquid-dispensing apparatus in response to roller rotation such that predetermined quantities of liquid are provided from the source in direct relation to the roller movement caused by the advancing workpieces or workstock. In a preferred embodiment, the roller is generally hollow and includes a series of internal spray orifices which discharge the liquid conveyed to the roller from the source outwardly into the interior of the roller, for contact with the inside periphery of the cylindrical roller wall. The roller wall is perforate in nature and has sufficient liquid-carrying capability to transfer the liquid from its inside periphery to its outside periphery while also dispersing it around and along the roller surface for transfer to the advancing workpieces as the roller rotates in contact therewith.

摘要： A liquid dispenser and contact applicator having an applicator member which in a preferably comprises at least one roller for contacting advancing workpieces and applying liquid to surfaces thereof as they pass. A cyclically repeatable volumetric displacement pump accurately meters predetermined quantities of the liquid from a source to a dispensing tube extending axially along the applicator member, and applies pressure to the liquid within the dispensing tube so as to periodically and repeatedly expel metered quantities of the liquid out of the dispensing tube as a spray, into the hollow interior confines of roller type applicator members. The roller of such applicators is highly perforate in nature to conduct the liquid through its sidewall and into a compressible outer cover through which the liquid passes to be present at the outer surface, for application thereby to the advancing workpieces. In preferred embodiments, the metering pump is a reciprocating plunger device which extends through a metering chamber or orifice, for accurately repetitive precise metering of discrete quantities of the liquid, and the roller includes a supportive tubular inner shell of a highly perforate nature, with a cover comprised of resilient open-celled polymeric foam, self-wicking felt or fiber, etc.

摘要： A liquid-dispenser and surface applicator for sheet stock or other such workpieces, including an applicator member which preferably comprises at least one generally hollow elongated roller which contacts advancing workpieces and applies liquid to surfaces thereof as they pass. A cyclically repeatable liquid-dispensing apparatus meters predetermined pulsed quantities of the liquid from a source and these are coupled to a dispensing tube disposed within and extending axially along the inside of the applicator roller. The dispensing tube has a closed end which causes the pulses of liquid coupled to it to be pressurized and thus expelled as a spray in metered quantities through a series of spaced apertures in the dispensing tube. The sprayed liquid passes into the hollow interior of the roller and the outer wall of the roller is perforate in nature, whereby the sprayed liquid passes through the wall and is absorbed by a resiliently compressible, liquid-transmissible outer cover, throughout which the liquid becomes dispersed for application to the advancing workpieces by direct contact with them.
