    • 370,428. Feeding webs. STERN, M. C., 212, North Main Street, and PFEIFFER, W. C., 1045, Dodgson Court, both in Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A. Oct. 6, 1930, No. 29917. [Class 100 (i).] In a manifolding machine in which record sheets in the form of a number of superposed webs having spaced perforations are fed over a platen, the web-feeding means is operated by an electric motor which is automatically stopped when the webs are fed the length of a record sheet, the leading ends of the webs being held stationary during the feeding movement. The feeding mechanism is carried by a frame 18, Fig. 1, attached to a frame 15, the upper end of which carries a platen over which is movable a typewriter 12. At the front end of the platen is arranged a bar against which the issuing sheets may be torn from the webs and which normally clamps the leading ends of the webs to the platen but may be raised on depression of a pedal 27. The webs 90 .. 96, Figs. 1, 3 and 4, pass from a roll 16 round a guide roller 97 and thence pass separately round a series of guide rollers 100 on to a pair of spaced endless conveyer bands 48 provided with feeding lugs 55 which engage in succession with the p rforations in the separated webs and bring them into exact registration longitudinally. The bands 48 pass round rollers 47, 49 and the shaft 46 of the roller 47 is driven through change-speed gearing from an electric motor 37, Fig. 1, which is provided with any suitable means for stopping it automatically after a predetermined rotation of the shaft driven thereby. The motor is started by the actuation of a switch arm 61 by a push rod 60. The length of webs fed forms a loop 106 between the frames 18, 15. The webs are unwound from the roll 16 by a pair of feed rollers 73, 74 engaging the web 90 and driven by gearing 70, 71, 72, 75 from the shaft 46. The rollers 73, 74 are pressed together by a spring 78 and may be separated to facilitate threading of the web by turning a shaft 85 carrying a cam 86 engaging in a slot in a member 76 carrying the roller 74. A brake roller 18a rests upon the roll 16 which is mounted in supports 20 having inclined edges over which the roll can be rolled into the open bearings 22. Specification 370,429 is referred to.
