    • A coolant filter for use in filtering a coolant solution which flows through the coolant filter includes a filter housing assembly which is made up of an outer housing which is crimped to a nutplate which defines an internally threaded flow outlet. A generally cylindrical filter element is positioned inside of the filter housing assembly and a first endplate is bonded to the end of the filter element which is adjacent to the nutplate. A second endplate is bonded to the opposite end of the filter element and helps to define an interior space within the filter element. A supply of supplemental coolant additive is contained within an osmotic film enclosure which is positioned within the interior space. The osmotic film enclosure provides a slow release mechanism for controlling the rate of release of the supplemental coolant additive into the coolant solution. In one embodiment of the present invention, the slow release mechanism includes a diffusion tube which defines a diffusion orifice.

In another embodiment of the present invention, the slow release mechanism includes a semipermeable (or osmotic) membrane wafer. In both instances, the slow release mechanism is positioned between the source of supplemental coolant additive and the flow outlet in the nutplate.

    • A valve assembly is provided for controlling the flow of liquid accumulated in a closed vessel through a drain port in the bottom wall of the vessel. The assembly includes a body member having a first section disposed within the drain port. The body member has a second section extending outwardly from the first section. The first and second sections are provided with a first passage for air venting the vessel interior, a second passage for controlled draining of the accumulated liquid from the vessel interior, and a common opening, the latter having an exposed end. Adjustably mounted on the body member is a valve member having a first segment adjustably disposed with respect to the opening of the body member and a second segment projecting outwardly from the first segment and subtending the body member second section. The valve member second segment is provided with first and second passages corresponding with the first and second passages of the body member. Seal elements are provided on the body member second section and in encompassing relation with ends of the first and second passages formed in the body member. When the valve member is in one position of adjustment, the corresponding first and second passages communicate with one another thereby effecting drainage of the accumulated liquid. When in a second position of adjustment, at least the corresponding first passages are not in communication whereby no drainage occurs.

    • A valve assembly is provided for controlled draining of a liquid accumulated in a closed vessel. The assembly includes a body member mounted on the vessel and a valve piece adjustably mounted on the body member for movement between open and closed positions. The body member has a first section extending into the vessel interior wherein the liquid accumulates, a second section secured to the vessel, and a substantially exposed third section. The first, second, and third sections are provided with a common primary passage and an independent common secondary passage. Each passage has one end terminating within the vessel interior and a second end terminating externally of the vessel. The body member first section is provided with a stationary valve seat disposed in aligned and spaced relation with respect to the primary passage one end. The valve piece includes an elongated first element slidably and sealingly mounted within the primary passage. A longitudinally extending bore open at opposite ends is formed in the first section. One end of the bore engages the valve seat and is closed thereby when the valve piece is in a closed position. An exposed flange element encompasses the exterior of the first element and is connected thereto. The flange element is provided with a seal means which sealingly engages and closes off an end of the secondary passage except when the valve piece is in the open position. The seal means effects a predetermined delay in opening the secondary passage relative to the unsealing of the bore end with respect to the valve seat.
