    • The preferred embodiment of the present invention is comprised of a translucent, flexible silicone material having two receptacles (101 and 102) molded into one side and an opening (103), connecting to one of the receptacles (101), in a second side. When the present invention is mounted in a radiotelephone, the opening (103) matches with an opening (201) in the radiotelephone housing and seals around the opening in the radiotelephone. The first receptacle (101) accepts a power connector (204) mounted on a printed circuit board while the other receptacle accepts a power indication LED (203). The opening (103) in the second side of the present invention allows another power connector to mate with the connector (204) within the first receptacle and supply power to the radiotelephone. The translucent nature of the present invention transmits light from the LED to the outside of the present invention and therefore to the outside of the radiotelephone through an opening (202) near the power connector opening.

    • An apparatus made of a single piece of resilient material has notches (101) with narrow openings, on the same side, on each end. An indentation (103) opposite each notch (101) creates a narrow, flexible segment (106) on each end of the apparatus. A printed circuit board inserted in one of the notches (101) will cause an end section (107) adjacent the notch (101) to flex, thereby allowing the board to enter into the narrow notch opening. Once the board has been inserted, the resilient material of the apparatus will cause the flexed end section (107) to attempt to return to its original shape. This will force the end section (107) up against the board thereby holding the board in place within the notch (101). This simple design allows the apparatus to be manufactured relatively inexpensively.

    • A keypad assembly is described that includes a novel elastomeric membrane keypad (120) sandwiched between a housing (110) and a circuit board 130. Keypad (120) is comprised of a sheet (122) and a plurality of keys (124) protruding therefrom. Keys (124) have carbon pads (220) on the bottom for producing electrical signal continuity between corresponding pairs of contacts on circuit board (130). Then sheet (122) further includes ridges (310) at the periphery of its top surface and surrounding each key (124). When keypad (120) is compressed between housing (110) and circuit board (130), ridges (310) produce a high compression seal around each key (124), thereby improving the tactile response thereof. Sheet (122) of keypad (120) also includes cavities (210) for light sources (410) on circuit board (130). The light from light sources (410) is conducted by sheet (122) throughout keypad (120) for brightly and evenly illuminating keys (124 ). The novel elastomeric membrane keypad (120) may be advantageously used in any application requiring a keyboard assembly.
