    • A ball valve includes a body having a passageway there through with a ball member disposed in the passageway and mounted for selective rotation between valve open and valve closed positions to control fluid flow. A pair of flange grooves are provided in the body on opposite sides of the ball, each flange groove extending radially from the passageway. A pair of seat rings are disposed in the passageway on opposite sides of the ball. Each seat ring has a first sealing surface in contact with an outer surface of the ball and a radially extending annular flange or tab received in an associated one of the flange grooves. The seat design further includes a pair of annular flange seals each disposed in a respective one of the flange grooves. The seat configuration achieves a cantilever effect to improve the temperature and pressure cycling performance of the valve.

    • An elastomeric sleeve is placed under axial compression in a pinch valve assembly. The axial compression of the sleeve eliminates any crevices with end members that engage opposed end walls of the valve body. Further, axial compression extends cycle life of the valve by maintaining the sleeve in a non-tensile relationship. Mechanical gripping of enlarged flanges defined at opposed ends of the sleeve is also enhanced through axial compression of the sleeve. A positive, visual indication of valve open and closed positions is provided by an indicator stem extending outwardly from an actuator body. In an alternate embodiment, the flanges are reinforced. Additionally, a casing member is interposed between the valve body and sleeve for ease of replacement and maintenance. In still another embodiment, a vent opening in the valve body eliminates pneumatic closure forces on the elastomeric sleeve that can arise when the pinch valve is heated. The vent opening can also be connected to a valve to provide selective venting of the valve body. In yet another embodiment, an actuator is modified to limit excessive forces on the sleeve during closure.

    • A ball valve comprising a housing having a cylindrical bore extending inwardly from the exterior and defining a valve chamber with inlet and outlet passages connected from the exterior of the housing to the chamber. A ball valve member is positioned axially in the chamber and has a cylindrical operating stem extending axially of the bore into a position exterior of the housing. Positioned within the chamber is a mass of resilient packing material which surrounds the ball and substantially fills the chamber. Adjustable means are provided for applying a compressive load to the packing to cause it to sealingly engage the inner walls of the chamber and the exterior of the ball member. The adjustable means include a rigid circular gland member closely received in the bore and extending transversely thereof in engagement with the packing. A circular opening in the gland member closely surrounds the operating stem and disk spring means are positioned on the gland member on the side opposite the packing. Closely received in the bore outwardly of the disk spring means is a packing nut having an inner surface engaging the disk spring means. Means are associated with the packing nut and the bore for adjustably moving the packing nut member toward the packing gland to compress the disk spring means and apply a biasing force to the packing.
