    • A method for authenticating a user of a transit system includes creating a user account associated with a user of a transit system and receiving a display identifier associated with a payment account of the user. The display identifier is visible on a payment media associated with the payment account. A first ridership challenge answer is requested and received. A second ridership challenge answer is requested based on the received first ridership challenge answer. The second ridership challenge answer is received. The ridership challenge answers are related to interactions of the user within the transit system. A transaction identifier is identified as being associated with the payment account based on the ridership challenge answers. The display identifier is linked with the transaction identifier. The display identifier and the transaction identifier are at least partially distinct from one another. Both the identifiers are associated with the user account.

    • A multifunction sight is disclosed. The multifunction sight (100) includes an body(204), a receiving aperture (212), an emitting aperture (242), a parabolic reflector (412), and an optical detector. The receiving aperture passes radiation in a first band and a second band into the body where the first band is different from the second band. The emitting aperture that passes the radiation in the first band out of the body. The parabolic reflector displays a point source (308) such that the point source is visible from the emitting aperture. The point source appears aligned with where the multifunction sight is aimed irrespective of a visual alignment with the emitting aperture. The optical detector is affixed to the body and coupled to the radiation in the second band, and receives coded radiation with the second band.

    • The present invention relates to a smart electronic media dynamic imaging system and method to store and retrieve intelligent data that may be used fora variety of purposes, including displaying images, user alerts, or textual messages. Smart media includes technologies such as smart cards (IC cards), optical memory cards and the like that would contain data for the purpose of providing graphical user information, such as advertisements. The system is comprised of smart media, a reader, a vendor or electronic gate having display and a hosting computer that allows for the transfer and receiving of image data such as text, icons, bit maps and graphical data on to and from the smart media. The method stores image data onto the smart media, in either a compressed image format or in the form of data address pointers, and locates images in a host computer such as that of the gate, vendor or store/station computer. In addition, a method of supplying personal data to a decision tree to determine what image data or file should be displayed is disclosed. The stored data held within the smart media, may contain personal data, usage information, and/or user profile tags (information) that can be used to decipher or data mine what data is to be activated or displayed onto the electronic fare or access gate or that of the retailers patron display.

    • A stationary area weapon effects simulator is mounted to the ceiling of a room in a building being assaulted by soldiers equipped with optical detectors and small arms weapons having small arms transmitters (SATs). Area effects weapon codes simulating the detonation of a grenade, bomb, artillery shell or chemical/biological weapon are encoded onto infrared signals emitted by a plurality of LEDs in the weapon effects simulator and these codes are logged in player units (DPCUs) carried by the soldiers. The simulated area weapon effects may be confined to particular angular zones and this zone information may also be encoded onto the infrared emissions. An alternate embodiment utilizes a stationary locator in a room which only remits infrared signals with location information encoded in the same which are logged by the player unit. Area weapon effects and location information may be downloaded from the player units, along with conventional casualty, near miss and time of occurrence data for assessment of tactics and weapons usage accuracy during after action review (AAR) by an instructor. A red rotating beacon may be added to the area weapon effects simulator to indicate the simulated detonation and/or to indicate that a structure such as a bridge has been blown up and ca no longer be used. The area weapon effects simulator can be activated by sending an RF command received through a pager, or by manual devices such as an electro-mechanical switch connected to a trip wire.
