摘要： A heat insulating material comprises hollow threads of metal or textile fibres, particularly artificial silk, the interior of the threads being evacuated. The hollow core space is preferably evacuated by spinning the hollow filament in a vacuous chamber, from which it is withdrawn through a liquid seal. Each filament may be subdivided into cells by producing transverse walls arranged at predetermined distances, e.g. by providing within the vacuous chamber means operative at regular intervals to nip or crush the wall of the hollow thread. Specification 315,280, [Class 64 (ii), Heating systems &c.], is referred to.

Cooling condensers, air blast and deflectors for. -Relates to apparatus mounted on a vehicle for cooling the condenser cooling-water of steam locomotives by direct contact with an air current due to the movement of the vehicle, and comprises a number of separate coolers traversed by separate currents of air, these coolers being mounted on a single vehicle or on separate vehicles, of which one may be in front of and another behind the locomotive. In the arrangement shown, the first cooler is mounted on a tender having a coal bunker 10. The water is fed from a pipe 8 and pipes 7 in parallel to spray pipes 5 at the tops of air channels 3, 4. The first cooler is fitted with a deflector to direct the exhaust air over the top of the second cooler, the space below the deflector being open at the bottom to direct fresh air into the front opening of the second cooler. A fan 15 may be fitted to direct the air from below into the entrance 11 of the second channel, which is open at the sides of the front but closed at the top. The second cooler may be spaced from the first sufficiently to utilize the natural draught, the fan being dispensed with.
