摘要： A method of producing a sub pixel resolution representation of a shape suitable for display on a sub pixel addressed screen. The method comprises producing a scaled sub pixel optimized image of a bitmap image by associating a luminosity value with each sub pixel of the scaled image as a function of the percent of the area of the sub pixel's area in the image that is covered by the shape and a color balancing function designed to distribute a portion of a sub pixel's luminosity value that otherwise would cause color imbalance to nearby sub pixels of different colors. The percent of a sub pixel's luminosity values that is so distributed is a function of the percent of the sub pixel's luminosity value, which causes color imbalance. An advantage is that it reduces the amount of luminosity value distributed for color balance purposes to approximately only that amount which is necessary to achieve color balance, and increases the clarity of sub pixel optimized images.

摘要： The invention relates to methods, systems, and programming for producing and drawing subpixel-optimized bitmap images of shapes, such as fonts, by using non-linear color balancing. Some embodiments associate a luminosity with each subpixel of such an image as a function of (a) the percent f the subpixel's area covered by the shape and (b) the distribution to nearby subpixels of portions of the subpixel's resulting coverage value that cause color imbalance. Some embodiments distribute a subpixel's coverage value as a function of its difference from coverage values of other subpixels in the same pixel. Some embodiments draw a image comprised of pure foreground and background color pixels, as well as intermediary pixels in which subpixels are determined as a function of both foreground and background colors and color balancing. The intermediary pixels can, but need not, separate the foreground and background pixels along thh direction of color balancing.

摘要： A computer system can translate original font descriptions, often from text contained on one computer, into new font descriptions which use different outline segmentation, and then install the new font descriptions into a computer operating system, often on a second computer, so operating system calls can be used to render the text. The system can send a first message over a network to request a text, and a second message to request a set of font descriptions for rendering the text. Preferably the text includes an identifier which can be used in the second message to identify the particular font descriptions desired. The system can receive a body of text and an old set of font resources and can derive a customized new set of font resource from the old set based on the particular character-font shapes in the text, eliminating multiple font descriptions for the same character-font shape and font descriptions for character-font shapes which do no currently occur in the text. The system can also render the character font shapes of a text from a plurality of portable font resources, each of which can have different characters from the same fonts. Such systems can receive and cache separate portable font resources.

摘要： The invention relates to methods, systems, and programming for producing and displaying subpixel-optimized images and digital content including such images. Some embodiments access digital content represented by a mark-up language and display it with its images scaled down in a subpixel-optimized manner in a format dictated by the mark-up language. Some embodiments produce subpixel-optimized images by calculating the luminosity of a subpixel in such an image as a function of the length of a plurality of coverage lines within a window in a source image corresponding to the subpixel that is covered by source image pixels having the subpixel's color. Some embodiments calculate the luminosity of a subpixel in a subpixel-optimized image as a function both of the average luminosity of pixels in the subpixel's source image window and as a function of any color balancing distribution between resulting subpixel luminosities necessary to reduce color imbalance.

摘要： The invention relates to methods, systems, and programming for displaying media in a scaled-down manner. In some embodiments one web page layout is displayed at different scales, with different pixel resolution bitmaps used for images and fonts at each different scale, and with the shape and pixel alignment of font bitmaps of the same character being varied to improve readability at each scale. In some embodiments a user can select text from one of multiple columns of a web page's display and have it re-laid out and displayed at a larger font size relative to a column width that fills at least 2/3 of the display's width. In some embodiments a web page can be selectively displayed in different layouts in which images and text have different sizes relative to the layout space and different pixel resolutions, and in which text flows differently across line boundaries.
