    • Fuel compositions comprise a hydrocarbonaceous fuel and an amount, sufficient to provide detergency and dispersancy, of an additive of molecular weight 450 to 10,000 and represented by the formula where U is C2- 6 alkylene, R is a hydrocarbon radical substantially free from aromatic unsaturation, having on average at least one branch per 6 carbon atoms along the chain and having a molecular weight of 400 to 5000, a is 0 to 10, b is 0 or 1, a+2b is 1 to 10 and c is 1 to 5. The additives may be reaction products of halogenated, e.g. chlorinated or brominated, polymers of C3- 6 olefins or copolymers thereof with ethylene, and alkylene polyamines. The products may be added to gasoline fuels, optionally as a concentrate in solvents such as benzene, toluene, xylene, isopropanol, isobutyl, carbinol and n-butanol; if desired, together with conventional additives such as anti-knock agents, e.g. tetramethyl lead or tetraethyl lead; lead scavengers, e.g. dichlorobenzene and ethylene dibromide; and nonvolatile light mineral lubricating oils. Examples describe the addition to solvent refined, neutral gasolines of additives prepared by reacting chlorinated polyisobutylene with (1, 2 and 5) ethylene diamine, and (4) tetraethylene pentamine, and chlorinated polypropylene, with (3) ethylene diamine.ALSO:Additives for hydrocarbonaceous fuels comprise compounds of molecular weight 450 to 10,000 and represented by the formula where U is C2- 6 alkylene, R is a hydrocarbon radical substantially free from aromatic unsaturation, having an average at least one branch per 6 carbon atoms along the chain and having a molecular weight of 400 to 5,000, a is 0 to 10, b is 0 or 1, a + 2b is 1 to 10 and c is 1 to 5. The radical R may be derived from a polymer of a C3- 6 olefin, particularly isobutylene or propylene, or a copolymer thereof with ethylene. The compounds may be prepared by halogenating a polyolefin in the presence of a peroxy compound, azo compound, bromine, iodine, ferric chloride or light, and reacting the halogenated polymer with an alkylene polyamine. Many suitable reactants are specified, and in examples polyisobutylene is (A) chlorinated with chlorine and (B) brominated with N-bromosuccinimide in carbon tetrachloride; and fuel additives are prepared by reacting chlorinated polyisobutylene with (1, 2 and 5) ethylene diamine and (4) tetraethylene pentamine, and chlorinated polypropylene with (3) ethylene diamine.

    • Polymer comprises a linear charged polymer backbone and a sufficient concn. of charge compensating ionic dopant(s), linear polymer backbone being capable of undergoing reversible oxidn. or reversible redn. or both to form the linear charged polymer backbone. Backbone comprises diradical repeat units chosen from a heterocyclic ring system including at least one gp. 5B or gp. 6B atom, none of the ring C atoms being satd., a heterocyclic ring system including at least one gp. 5B or gp. 6B atom in which none of the ring C atoms is satd. and a connecting unit, and mixts. of these, in which the diradical repeat unit contains non exocyclic double bonds and the diradical unit forming stable ionic species, and the connecting unit is a conjugated system or atom or gp. of atoms which maintain pi orbital overlap with the heterocyclic ring system excluding fused 5,6-membered heterocyclic ring systems in which two heteroatoms are in the 5-membered ring. Pref. the gp. 5B or 6B heteroatom is N, P, As, O, S, Se, Te or mixts. of these, and pref. none of the heteroatoms occupy the ring fusion positions. Pref. when the heteroatoms are N no more than 2 N atoms are bonded with heterocyclic ring system, and when the heteroatoms are P, As, O, Se, Se or Te they do not occupy adjacent ring positions. Polymer are insulating materials, tractible and processable, unlike prior art materials such as poly-p-phenylene, polypyrrole, etc. all completely infusible and insoluble. Type of electrical conductivity (n-type or p-type) of desired electroactive polymer can be preselected, as can the redox potential and the room temp. electrical conductivity. Virgin polymers have excellent mechanical and thermal properties and are highly stable to oxidative degradation. Modification reaction of the polymers is reversible. Useful e.g. in the fabrication of prim. and sec. batteries, photovoltaic devices, Schottky type devices, etc.

    • In one embodiment, a sulfur-contaminated catalyst is rejuvenated by the cyclic process of (1) exposing the catalyst to oxidizing conditions in the presence of oxygen at a temperature of from 200 C to 450 C; (2) contacting the oxidized catalyst with at least 10 cc of an aqueous media in the liquid phase per cc of catalyst; wherein the aqueous media is selected from the group consisting of water, an aqueous solution, and a saturated water vapor; and (3) exposing said wet catalyst to reducing conditions in the presence of hydrogen at a temperature of from 200 C to 700 C. In another embodiment, the catalyst is contacted with an aqueous solution of a salt of a metal selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal and an alkaline earth metal. In still another embodiment, the catalyst is washed with either a neutral solution or an acidic solution, contacted with an aqueous solution of a salt of a metal selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal and an alkaline earth metal, washed with a neutral solution, and dried.
