    • Provided are a method for preparing 3(4),7(8)-dihydroxymethylbicyclo[4.3.0]nonane to improve production yield, and the novel 3(4),7(8)-dihydroxymethylbicyclo[4.3.0]nonane prepared by the method which is used for preparing a conversion product used as a plasticizer and a lubricant. The method comprises the steps of reacting bicyclo[4.3.0]nona-3,7-dienol and a synthesis gas in the presence of a transition metal compound of group VIII in a periodic table containing a complex-bonded organic phosphorus compound and an excessive amount of an organic phosphorus compound in a uniform organic phase at a temperature of 70-160 deg.C and at a pressure of 5-35 MPa to obtain 3(4),7(8)-bisformylbicyclo[4.3.0]nonane; and hydrogenating the obtained 3(4),7(8)-bisformylbicyclo[4.3.0]nonane to prepare 3(4),7(8)-dihydroxymethylbicyclo[4.3.0]nonane.
