[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 7, 1941.] [Class 69 (iii)] [Also in Group VI] Apparatus for spraying or vaporizing a medicament comprises at least two nozzles one of which is used for atomizing the medicament and the other for admixing a therapeutic gas or a steam jet in combination with an ozonizer for forming a therapeutic gas and an ionizer for ionizing the steam. Fig. 2 shows an apparatus in which steam from a generator 1 is led by a flexible tube 2 to the nozzle 3 of a hand spray 7 and compressed air after passing through an ozonizer 5 to a dip tube in the sprayer flows to a nozzle 9. An ionizer 17 is mounted in the pipe leading from the steam generator. The steam generator comprises a reservoir 1 leading to a vaporizing chamber 1a filled with quartz sand, glass wool &c. and containing a heater 1b. Fig. 4 shows a hand atomizer comprising a nozzle 9 for liquid atomized by air or gas admitted through a passage 12 and a steam nozzle 3. The steam nozzle forms part of a dielectric tube 18 within which are metal layers 20, Fig. 5, carried by a holder 19, and 21 on the inner surface of the tube, and a short metal outer layer 22. The outer layer is connected to one terminal of a Tesla coil 23 while the innermost layer 20 is connected to the other terminal of the coil and to earth. The nozzles are surrounded by a perforated casing 26 through which air is drawn and ionized by the layer 22, the layers 20, 21 serving to ionize the steam. Fig. 8 shows an apparatus in which the medicament is vaporized by steam and carried along the tube 18 holding the layers 20, 21, 22 connected to a high frequency coil 23. Air is drawn into the casing 27 and ozonized by the layer 22, the other layer serving to ionize the steam.

    • In apparatus for treating the skin by blowing steam from a nozzle upon it, ionization of the steam and formation of ozone is obtained by high-frequency discharges occurring between electrodes situated within the nozzle and having no electrical connection with the patient, the electrodes being either the nozzle and an electrode insulated therefrom or two electrodes insulated from each other and the nozzle. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, a mixture of ionized air and steam is obtained by means of an annular electrode 5 arranged in front of the nozzle 3, the nozzle and funnel shaped screen 4 acting as the other electrode. Air is drawn through the annular electrode by the steam jet, being previously ionized and ozonized by the discharge between the electrode and the screen, and causes ionization of the steam. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the steam is passed through a discharge occurring between electrodes 7, 7 in the nozzle 3 itself.

[Class 131.] In permanent waving apparatus of the kind comprising a clamp applied to the root of a tress, a curler upon which the tress is wound, and a wrapper connected to the clamp for enclosing the wound tress, one of the limbs of the clamp carries a flexible wrapping member, the outer free longitudinal edge of which is thickened, means being provided for connecting the thickened edge either to the thickened edge of an identical member carried by the other limb, or directly to the other limb. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the limbs 3, 4 of the clamp are embedded in thickened longitudinal edges of wrapping members 1, 2 of heat resisting rubber, the outer longitudinal edges of the members 1, 2 being thickened and preferably provided with metal inserts 6, 7. When the members 1, 2 are wrapped around the tress, the outer thickened edges are secured by a clip 8, Fig. 2, or by U-shaped wire clips applied lengthwise just below the thickened edges. In a modification in which only one limb 11, Fig. 4, of the clamp is provided with a wrapping member 10, the thickened outer edge of the member 10 is provided with a wire reinforcement 15, the ends of which, when the wrapper is applied around the tress, are engaged in notches provided in the end plates 12 of the clamp.
