    • A medication dispensing system for use with a medication dispenser, includes a physiological module and an ingestion module. The physiological module receives information regarding time-based medication intake, information regarding event-based medication prescription, and sensory input indicating occurrences of events indicative of a patient's physiological condition and/or the patient's physiological clock. The physiological module then determines physiological event-based medication intake based on the information regarding the event-based medication prescription and physiological rules regarding the patient's physiological condition and/or the patient's physiological clock. The ingestion module merges event-based medication intake and time-based medication intake by delaying or accelerating dispensing of a time-based medication. The delay or acceleration can be applied to ensure that the time-based medication is dispensed at the same time as an event-based medication, and/or in order to increase a time difference between ingestion of the time-based medication and the event-based medication.

    • An electronic guide system is described that includes a fixed-location beacon located adjacent to a location which is associated with a plurality of landmarks to transmit electronic signals containing descriptive information of each of the landmarks. The guide system also includes a client device physically separated from the beacon to receive the electronic signals containing the descriptive information of each of the landmarks when placed by a user within a transmission range of the beacon. A viewing direction sensor is provided to determine viewing direction of the user to cause the client device to provide the user with the descriptive information of one of the landmarks at which the user is looking. An electronic guide system that includes a movable beacon is also described.

    • Data delivery in GSM and UMTS co-existing networks is controlled by apparatus located within the network infrastructure which predicts the trajectory of a moving mobile station (26) requesting transmission or reception of data. By knowing the trajectory of the mobile station (26), the transmission can be made in an optimum manner by setting an appropriate transmission rate or delaying transmission until the mobile station (26) reaches a cell (18) able to accommodate faster data rates than its neighbours (17, 19). The trajectory prediction is based on a learning process whereby a large population of mobile stations' behaviour in a designated zone (5) is monitored over a period of time. Mobile stations with like behaviourial characteristics are grouped together. A mobile station (26) requesting a service for data transmission is matched to one of the recorded groups from which its trajectory can be predicted. The invention has been shown to be able to cut down the transmission times and improve the call drop rate.
