    • 637,230. Television. BRADY, J. B. Aug. 23, 1946, No. 25216. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1945. [Class 40 (iii)] A television transmission system by which may be transmitted at will either scenes or printing telegraph messages comprises an automatic printing telegraph transmitter controlling a receiver to produce messages on a transparent web, means for projecting an image of the web on a light-sensitive mosaic connected with a transmission channel, and progressively adjustable means for conditioning said channel for transmission prior to the starting of said transmitter and operative at the end of the progressive adjustment to start said transmitter. A printing-telegraph receiver 30 receives signals from an automatic transmitter 45 or manual transmitter 44 via a switch 41 and records the message in page form on a wide transparent tape 34. The message is optically projected, while it is being printed, on to an iconoscope 26 whose output may be amplified at 25 and transmitted over a transmission channel 3, 4 to energize a distant television receiver. A similar iconoscope 10 may transmit a scene 14 via an amplifier 15. Only one iconoscope transmits at a time, a rheostat arm 19 being manually rotated so that one or other of the amplifiers 15, 25 is biassed to cut-off and the other is biassed operatively. When the arm 19 is in the broken line position 23 to block the valve 15 and iconoscope 10 an abutment 55 closes contacts 51a, 52a, energizing a solenoid 50 to close contacts 48 and start the automatic transmitter 45. A tape printer 40 is used to monitor the message reproduced on the tape 34, since the optical projector system and iconoscope 26 are-enclosed in a cabinet and the tape 34 is therefore not visible.

    • 643,327. Television. BRADY, J. B. April 9, 1947, No. 9416. Convention date, June 7, 1945. [Class 40 (iii)] A printing telegraph receiver prints its message on a transparent web and it is then projected optically on to the mosaic of the iconoscope of a television transmitter so that, as it is being printed, the message is re-transmitted to a plurality of distant electronic television receivers where the image is optically projected on to a large screen. The image of a particular receiver may be photographed for monitoring purposes and in this case each line-feed movement of the printing receiver paper-feeding mechanism rotates a wheel 142, Fig. 10, by one tooth so that contacts 144, 145 are momentarily closed to energize a relay 148 whose contacts 151 energize an oscillator 153 and send a short burst of oscillation over the television channel 163. At the monitoring receiver 54, Fig. 14, the line-feed signals are filtered, amplified and applied via a time-constant circuit to a relay 230 which remains operated so long as the message carrier of the printing receiver steps on. If in addition picture signals are being received relay 225 closes its contacts 221 and thus energizes relay 218 which starts a film drive motor 212 of a kinematograph camera 204. At the same time a parallel relay 234 is energized and its armature 235 pulls down a shutter 237 so that a slot 238 therein coincides with a slot 208 in a fixed mask to expose the film 233 to the last complete line of text displayed on the receiver screen 166. Failure of either picture or line-feed signals stops the motor 212 and closes the shutter 237. In a modification, Fig. 12 (not shown), monitoring is by means of still photography and the line-feed signals operate a ratchet and pawl to step on the film by one line and at the end of this movement the signals energize a magnet to lift a slotted mask and momentarily expose the film to a line of text displayed on the receiver screen. Details are given of the method of mounting the transmitting iconoscope adjacent the printing receiver in shock-absorbent mountings.

    • Methods and apparatus are provided to monitor and analyze activity occurring on a networked computer system. In some embodiments, a method is provided for capturing, in a data structure, at least a portion of a notification describing a network event provided by a node on a computer network, identifying a data element (e.g., an IP address of the node) within the notification, and updating an index and/or summary based on the data element. The data structure may be stored in a file system maintained on a site, and sites may exchange information related to the notification data stored on each. In some embodiments, a query which is issued to a site may be processed using data transferred from other sites, and/or may be split into one or more additional queries which may be transmitted for processing to other sites.
