    • A fluid dispensing system for use with a drum with a bung, and a drum insert that includes a downtube that inserts into the bung. A dispense head has provision for a return flow line that discharges recirculated fluid into the annular space around the drum insert downtube. A foaming reduction device minimizes foam created from the recirculation. The invention includes a spring-loaded poppet that closes when the dispense head is removed from the bung opening. The poppet is configured such that the engagement member is a ring shaped with support members extending axially. The engagement member seats on and couples with a nipple on the drum insert.The nipple has a seating portion to engage the engagement member of the poppet. The invention also includes a seal verification conduit in fluid communication with a space intermediate two seals at a junction between the dispense head and the drum insert.

    • A blow molded drum has a port including a neck with exterior buttress threads and a port opening having a sleeve fusion bonded in the neck. The sleeve having a inner cylindrical sealing surface, and a shoulder. A drop-in down tube assembly seats with the shoulder and has an upwardly extending nipple. Either a dispense head or a closure radially seals within the sleeve and is secured by a retainer with interior buttress threads engaging with the exterior threads on the port neck. The dispense head has a first flow duct extending to a nipple engaging portion to seal with the upwardly extending nipple and a second flow duct leading to an annular space around the nipple for a return fluid line or for providing air or a gas for displacing withdrawn fluid. The closure is preferably comprised of a cylindrically shaped interior liner portion for engaging and sealing with the cylindrical sealing surface of the sleeve, such as by an o-ring, and has a pathway which includes the spiral gap between the cooperating buttress threads on the neck and on the retainer. A microporous membrane may be placed in the pathway to allow venting of gases but preclude leakage of the liquid in the drum.

    • A fluid dispense system for use with a drum having a drum insert configured to couple with a bung included on a drum, the drum insert having an upper portion and a drum insert down tube extending therefrom into an interior of the drum. The system further having a dispense head configured to couple with the drum insert, the dispense head having first and second conduits, each having a valve assembly, the valve assemblies in operable communication with the drum insert when the dispense head is coupled with the drum insert. When the dispense head is coupled with the drum insert the first and second valve assemblies are effected to an open position enabling fluid to flow through the conduits. When the dispense head is not coupled with the drum insert the first and second valve assemblies are biased to a closed position inhibiting fluid from flowing through the conduits.

The dispense head has a first flow duct extending to a nipple engaging portion to seal with the upwardly extending nipple and a second flow duct leading to an annular space around the nipple for a return fluid line or for providing air or a gas for displacing withdrawn fluid. In a preferred embodiment the threaded nut provides an axial tightening force and also provides an axial removal force that disengages the nipple engaging portion with the nipple as the retainer nut is loosened.

    • Steel and plastic drums are utilized in many industries for transporting and storing various liquids which may be utilized as fuels, lubricants, ingredients, process fluids, or the like. Often the liquids transported and stored in such drums are highly caustic and/or hazardous and absolute containment during storage, transport, and handling are essential. For example in the semiconductor industry, caustic chemicals such as hydrofluoric acid are commonplace. Some liquids develop significant internal gas pressures when contained during storage. Such pressures must be periodically vented. Even when drums with such hazardous and caustic liquids are on site and ready for use, great care must be taken in accessing the liquids so as not to expose personnel or the environment to such chemicals.
