    • 241,335. Adler, B. Aug. 21, 1924. Spray carburettors.-A fuel nozzle 4, Figs. 1 and 2, with atomizing orifices 5 extends across an air channel 1 in which is formed a preliminary mixture which is delivered through a right-angled extension and a perforated tube or nozzle 7 into the main air passage 6. Additional air may be admitted to the mixture through orifices 9 in a tube 8, the outer end of the tube being adapted to be closed or put into communication with an exchangeable inlet nozzle 12, by a rotatable plate 10 carrying such nozzle. Hot, air may be supplied to the channel 7 through pipes 38, 40 provided with a valve 41, and cold air may be admitted through a valve 43, 44, Fig. 1. In the case of an engine intended to run on heavy or light fuel, two float chambers and two passages 1, 1 , Fig. 3, each corresponding to channel 1, Fig. 1, are provided. At the junction of these passages is a rotary three-way valve 14 having ports 15, 16 the valve being coaxial with and discharging towards the perforated tube or nozzle 7. The three-way valve is actuated from the throttle valve 17 by a rod 18, Fig. 5, having slotted portions 19, 20 with which engage respectively the arm 21 of throttle valve 17, and a link 22 on the arm 23 of the three-way valve. The arms are forced by springs 24, 25 towards stops. With the port 15 open to the passage 1, the throttle 17 is nearly closed and light fuel is supplied, and the connection between the valves is such that heavy fuel is not supplied until after the throttle has been fully opened. Between the positions for light or heavy fuel alone, a mixture of the two may be supplied. A fuel filter 26 either separate from or cast with the float chamber may be provided, and may be jacketed at 28. To prevent unauthorized use of the engine the handle 30 of a cock 29 on the fuel pipe may be secured in its closed position to a lug 31 by a padlock and the fuel left in the float chamber may be drained off by a cock 32 Either on the float chamber itself Fig. 1, or on the filter- Fig. 3.
