The device (100) includes at least one mounting bracket (180) for securing the device (100) to a desired mailbox (200) proximate to the door (210). A spring actuator (160) is secured to a mounting bracket (170, 180) and a housing (110) having an illuminating device (120). The housing (110) includes a power supply (130) and an illuminating mechanism (120). The second end of the actuator is placed in the retaining slot (175) of the mounting bracket (170) placing the illuminating device (120) in the off position. Upon contact of the receptacle and the door of the mailbox, the second end of the actuator is released from the retaining slot (175) in the mounting bracket (170) placing the device (120) in the on position and illuminating the device (120) to provide a signal.
