Spindle-driving apparatus; stop apparatus, non-automatic.-The vertical spindles 1 of twisting and like frames are driven through adjacent driving-spindles 6 by speed-reducing toothed gearing 4, 5, the spindle 6 being driven from the main shaft 8 of the frame by cords 9 running at a high speed. The spindles 1, 6 are supported in sockets 3 in a box 3 enclosing the gearing 4, 5 and containing lubricant. The cord 9 is kept tight by a pulley 10 carried by a lever 11, the end 11 of which is kept down by a catch 12 on a vertical rod 12 engaging a stop 13. When it is desired to stop the spindle, the catch 12 is disengaged, the rod 12 rises, and the cord is slackened. The cord may be also gripped by well-known means, or an automatic stop motion, such as described in Specification 18,920/88, may be used. The vertical driving-spindle 15, Fig. 3, may carry a fast pulley and be fitted with a spindle 18 working in a socket 19 and carrying a pulley 17, on to which the cord may be shifted when it is desired to stop the spindle 1.

Spindle apparatus; thread - guides; rubbing threads during twisting.-A twisting-frame, in which several single yarns or threads are passed through delivery rollers and twisted up on to a bobbin or spindle, has means for guiding and smoothing the threads so as to form a well-laid cord or thread. The guide 16 consists of a disk with a boss 17, by which it is held in a bracket 15 so as to be easily removable for the purpose of threading. At equal intervals around the periphery of the disk are fixed six guide-eyes 19; and a smoothing-guide 20, with a trumpetshaped mouth and six equidistant radial grooves 22, is fixed on the top of the guide. Each of the threads 2 from the delivery rollers is passed through one of the eyes 19 and one of the grooves 22 and down through the hardened steel die 18 to the flyer 6 and bobbin 12. The bracket 15 is carried by a flyer-steadier 10 hinged on a rod 11 in front of and at the top of the spindle 5. The flyer, which is mounted on the driven spindle 5, has a boss 7 which passes through, and is secured by, a collar 9 in a bush 8 in the steadier 10. When a bobbin is full, the flyer is raised off the spindle and swung with the steadier and guide clear of the spindle. In a modification, a wire is suspended above the mouth of the guide 20, so as to project about an inch therein; the threads are twisted upon this' core and drawn off the point downwards to the bobbin; or one or more threads drawn from bobbins may be used to form a core and pass with the twisted threads on to the bobbin.

The boss 7 of the wharle is made slightly conical, as shown, and is provided with a bellshaped part 7 , which overhangs the washer 6 on which the bobbin tube rests. The metal washer 6 is made in the form of a cup, and contains a vulcanite washer 8.

摘要： 1489. Boyd, T. A. Jan. 23. Winding-machines.- In cup or cone winding- frames, the cup 2 is held loosely in a bracket 1 so that it may adjust itself as required to the spindle and bobbin. The yarn is led to the bobbin through a traversing tension device consisting of a pair of curved discs 7, Fig. 4, which are pressed together by a spiral spring 6 enclosed and regulated by the lock-nuts 8, 9, the whole being carried by a rocking shaft 3 beneath the spindles. A similar tension device is shown mounted on a fixed rod 14, and applied to a drum winding-machine The discs 10 are held on one side by a collar or cup 13, and are pressed together by a spring 11 enclosed in the casing 12.
