Loading of cartridges into the pressure vessel is facilitated through a removable loading tool (51) which is supported in the entrance end via support structure (53) through engagement with, a circumferential groove (19) used to secure the said end closure plug. The tool provides a trough-like arcuate plate that leads to the circular cross-section interior bore (15) and extends rearward of the entrance end of the pressure vessel.

摘要： A tubular pressure vessel (11) for cross-flow filtration having a central inlet (21), in the form of one or two side ports that penetrate the sidewall, leading to a central chamber that divides the pressure vessel bore (15) into two axially separated sections that each contain a plurality of cylindrical, cross-flow filtration cartridges (25). A feedstream entering the pressure vessel (11) flows in both axial directions, creating two permeate streams and concentrate streams, the latter of which exit through horizontal side ports (23) located near each end of the pressure vessel. When a pair of diametrically opposed, central side ports (21) are used, they may be provided through the use of short length of tubing (63) that provides structural stability to the overall pressure vessel arrangement. By interconnecting such side inlets (21) in adjacent pressure vessels in a vertical stack, a single feed line (77) can supply multiple pressure vessels. When an array of such stacks is used, horizontal side outlet ports (23') for the concentrate streams can be likewise interconnected to provide combined concentrate outlet streams.

The central flat rear region (47) smoothly transitions to a frustoconical surface (51) that extends radially outward to an annular cavity (53) of V-shape, the outer surface of which cavity is defined by a surrounding, axially extending peripheral flange (55).

After winding one overall innermost layer, an annular reinforcement belt (16) is helically wound atop a defined region using a band (60) of resin impregnated parallel strands (39) under tension. The annular belt (16) is then itself helically overwound with the resin impregnated parallel strands of filamentary material under tension to provide two complete outer layers. After curing and removal from the mandrel (23) at least one aperture (71) is cut in the sidewall within the reinforcement belt (16) and a side port fitting (75) is installed in the aperture (71).
