    • According to an approach for configuring wireless devices, a wireless device determines whether it is currently configured to use secure wireless communications when communicating with other wireless devices. If not, then the wireless device configures one or more wireless security parameters so that the wireless device will use a secure wireless communications protocol to communicate with other wireless devices. The wireless device may also generate one or more encryption keys for use with the secure wireless communications protocol. The wireless device provides the one or more wireless security parameters and the one or more encryption keys to a user. The wireless device may print a page specifying the one or more wireless security parameters and the one or more encryption keys or generate and send to the user an electronic message, email or facsimile containing the one or more wireless security parameters and the one or more encryption keys.

    • An approach is provided for collecting and reporting network device status data. Status data is received that indicates the status of one or more network devices. Report data is generated based upon the status data. Generating the report data may include formatting and translating the status data from one or more formats in which the status data was provided to one or more formats supported by one or more recipient devices. The report data may be provided to recipient devices immediately when generated or may be stored and provided to the recipient devices at a later time. Report data may also be retrieved remotely by recipient devices. In this situation, recipient devices are authenticated and request report data. The requests for report data are processed and report data is provided to the recipient devices.

    • A novel plug-in for use with a standard network management software and a process for monitoring network devices utilizing such a plug-in. The standard network management software will already exist on a network and will operate to discover all devices on a network and store information about the discovered devices in a database. The plug-in can access the database and identify a first set of network devices from the database, and poll the first set of network devices for information. The plug-in can further utilize the information from the polled first set of network devices to set predetermined properties for at least one of the first set of network devices, and can determine error conditions in the first set of network devices from the information from the polled first set of network devices. The plug-in can further report at least one of the error conditions to a device management facility by an e-mail message, that can be encrypted. The plug-in can report both high priority error conditions as they occur, and/or can report lower priority error conditions only if they persist for a predetermined period of time.

    • When a consumer makes a purchase at a POS using a payment provider, the payment provider provides, to the merchant, a consumer identification (ID) and an authorization number, along with the payment approval. After receiving the information from the payment provider, the POS device sends a generated digital or electronic receipt to an email address of the payment provider. The email contains information about the payer and the authorization. Upon receipt, the payment provider may upload the electronic receipt into the consumer's mobile wallet or account using the payer ID and authorization number. As a result, the consumer can easily locate and access a receipt on the consumer's mobile device, such as by accessing the user's mobile wallet or the user's payment provider account on the mobile device, e.g., through a mobile app.
