    • An imprinting system having a typeface for transferring ink supplied from an inked ribbon roll onto a substrate, and an ink ribbon cassette removably coupleable to a mounting member of the imprinting system to facilitate service and maintenance. An alignment member of the imprinting system is disposeable in a first alignment aperture of the ink ribbon cassette to align the ink ribbon cassette relative to the imprinting system. A lever having an engagement surface is pivotally coupled to the ink ribbon cassette and is engageable with a locking pin coupled to the imprinting system, wherein the engagement surface of the lever is engageable with the locking pin as the lever is pivoted to firmly retain the ink ribbon cassette mounted on the mounting member. A handle having multiple gripping members is coupled to an outer side portion of the ink ribbon cassette to facilitate gripping the cassette and for stably supporting the ink ribbon cassette disassembled from the imprinting system.

    • A gear finishing machine is provided which utilizes a driven rotary finishing gear and two idler finishing gears. In addition a reciprocating oscillatory mechanism that employs leaf springs as the coupling member, changes rotary into reciprocating motion, which serves to oscillate the workpiece gear across the finishing gears. The machine is capable of either burnishing or honing the workpiece gear according to the ratio of the rotary to sliding velocity of the workpiece gear relative to the finishing gears, duty cycle, and loading pressures. Sensors are utilized which detect undersize and oversize gears, the withdrawing of the driven burnishing gear to the correct location to eject the workpiece gear and the presence of gears in the input and output chute which serve as control signals for the machine.

    • A ring gear burnishing machine is disclosed that has a pair of burnishing stations in which ring gear workpieces are burnished in an overlapping cycle that minimizes burnishing time. Each burnishing station consists of a support table which is coupled to an air cylinder spring and is vertically displaceable so that a burnishing gear is placed on the support table when it is in its lowered position, and burnishing takes place when the support table is in its raised position. Burnishing is accomplished by a pair of burnishing gears at each station. One of the burnishing gears of each pair is driven and the other burnishing gear of the pair is an idler gear. A gear engagement mechanism that includes a pivotable support holder and a pair of rollers which engage the periphery of the ring gear is designed so that the rollers, which do not distort the ring gear, push it into mesh first with one of the rotating burnishing gears, and then with the other burnishing gear of the pair. The rollers force the ring gear to move so the center axis of the ring gear, which is initially displaced from the center of the support table, is positioned to coincide with the center point of the support table. The ring gears are fed onto the support tables in an alternating manner by an oscillating shuttle arm which forces the ring gears onto the support tables. The operation of the support tables and the gear engagement mechanism are controlled by cam surfaces on a rotating cam which controls cam followers that are positioned on opposite sides of said cam and are maintained apart against the force of a third air cylinder spring.

    • A new and improved indexing table for supporting a workpiece on a machine tool and the like includes a base with a workpiece supporting table carried on a support shaft journaled for rotation to index the workpiece for machine tool operations. A drive system is provided for rotating the table in one direction about a longitudinal axis of the support shaft and an indexing wheel is provided on the shaft having a plurality of index slots spaced angularly around the periphery for securing the table in selected indexing positions. A shot pin is provided for engaging selected slots in the wheel to lock the table in a fixed position and when the shot pin is retracted, the table is then permitted to rotate toward a next indexing position. Removable stops are insertable into the index wheel at selected positions corresponding to index slots therein and the stops in combination with a stop system are effective to arrest rotation of the workpiece and supporting table as the table is rotationally indexed toward and reaches a next selected index position.

    • A printing system for transferring ink from an inked ribbon supplied from a ribbon roll having a tubular core with an inner surface onto a substrate. The system includes a rotatable locking cam hub having a reel hub with a first surface engageable with the inner surface of the ribbon roll, and an eccentric hub having a second surface engageable with the inner surface of the ribbon roll. The eccentric hub is rotatable relative to the reel hub to provide a variable diameter between the first surface of the reel hub and the second surface of the eccentric hub. The diameter of the locking cam hub may be reduced by rotating the eccentric hub relative to the reel hub to permit disposal of the ribbon roll tubular core about locking cam hub, and the diameter of the locking cam hub may be increased by rotating the eccentric hub relative to the reel hub to engageably retain the inner surface of the ribbon roll by the first surface of the reel hub and the second surface of the eccentric hub. The locking cam hub includes a knurled outer surface to prevent rotational and axial slippage of the ribbon roll relative to the hub, and a spring member to prevent vibrationally induced rotation between the reel hub and the eccentric hub.
