摘要： A satellite communications system is described for increasing capacity through spectrum reuse by multiple satellites. The system includes a constellation of satellites traveling in a geosynchronous orbit, where the geosynchronous orbit defines a satellite track. The satellite track of the constellation overlaps a geostationary orbital location occupied by a legacy satellite traveling in a geostationary orbit. To prevent interference between the co-located constellation and legacy satellite, each of the constellation satellites operates in a silent mode when traveling within an interference beam width of a ground terminal in communication with the legacy satellite. Once outside of the interference beam width, the constellation satellites return to an active mode of operation.

摘要： Methods and apparatus provide vibration-free steered-beam antennas using a module to accommodate segregated de and rf signals. A phase-shifter element is disposed within an interior of the module. A radiating element is provided, and an rf interface is adapted to couple energy between the phase-shifter element and the radiating element. The rf interface is disposed entirely within the interior of the module and is adapted to provide an rf interface with the module substantially only through the radiating element. A dc interface is adapted to couple energy between the phase-shifter element and an electrical connection element disposed exterior to the module.

摘要： The present invention is a system and method for reducing the transmission of spurious radiation produced by local oscillators (LOs) in a spacecraft-based phased array antenna. The spurious radiation is reduced by spreading a substantial portion of the radiation outside of the earth disk. The spurious LO leakage radiation is spread by adjusting the phase of the LO signal to a specific value in each elemental path such as shifting the phase of the LO signal in every other elemental path by 180 degrees. The phase shifting of the LO signal can be accomplished by various methods, such as the insertion of a transmission line having a length of &lgr;/2 in the LO signal path prior to entering a mixer in every other elemental path, where &lgr; is the wavelength of the LO signal.
