    • Terminals are inserted into groove portions of a first member and a covered wire is mounted on each of the terminals. Protrusions of a second member are engaged with the groove portions of the first member. The second member is pressed so that the covered wires are pressed against press-fit blades of the terminal so as to attain electric conductivity. By ultrasonic vibration in the pressing condition, the first member and second member are fused with each other. At the same time, by ultrasonic vibration, the cores of the covered wires are fused with each other and the core and the press-fit blades are fused with each other. By the fusing of the cores mutually and the core and press-fit blades, the contact area is increased thereby decreasing contact resistance.

    • There is provided a waterproof electrical connector including a male connector housing and a female connector housing for connection with the male connector housing. A hood portion is provided on one of the male connector housing and the female connector housing. A packing within the hood portion provides a waterproof seal for the connector. A packing press ring presses against and retains the packing within the hood portion. Vent hole portions are provided on a portion of the packing press ring that is abutted against the packing. During connection of the male connector housing with the female connector housing, compressed air exits via the vent hole portions. Thereby, an impingement sound or a touch feeling is strongly produced so that, during assembly, an operator easily detects whether the connector housings are in a fitted condition or a non-fitted condition.

    • A connecting structure for connecting a covered wire to a terminal is provided. The connecting structure includes a first member and a second member to be laid on the first member. In arrangement, the terminal is interposed between the first member and the second member. The covered wire having core lines covered with an insulating cover is disposed on the terminal. In order to spread the core lines on the terminal, the first member is provided with a projection which extends perpendicular to a direction of the core lines of the covered wire. In manufacturing, the insulating cover is molten by vibrating the second member on the covered wire by ultrasonic waves. Consequently, the core lines are forcibly brought into contact with an end of the projection having a small frictional resistance. Thus, the core lines of the covered wire can be uniformly spread to increase contact area between the core lines and the terminal.

    • A terminal and a covered electric wire are pressed by a groove portion of a first member and a protruding portion of a second member, after which ultrasonic vibration is applied to bring the terminal and the covered electric wire into electric conduction therebetween, thereby ensuring the connection therebetween. A block portion is provided in the groove portion of the first member and the protruding portion which is to be fitted into the groove portion is provided with respect to the second member. The block portion and the protruding portion are each made of resin having a smaller coefficient of linear expansion, thereby making small the amount of shrinkage resulting from natural cooling after application of ultrasonic vibration and thereby ensuring the contact pressure of the terminal with core wires of the covered electric wire.

    • A waterproof structure for an electrical wiring instrument includes electrical wires, a housing, an upper cover and rubbery elastic members resulting from a pair of rubbery elastic materials. The housing has a cover portion formed on an end of the housing and provided with first accommodation grooves for accommodating the electrical wires. In assembling, after accommodating the wires in the first accommodation grooves, the wires are interposed between the pair of rubbery elastic materials in the form of sheets. Then, the upper cover is laid on the cover portion and subsequently subjected to ultrasonic oscillation under pressure. Consequently, the pair of rubbery elastic materials are cut by the first and second ribs to produce the elastic members surrounding the wires in accommodation holes defined by the first and second accommodation grooves.

    • A waterproof connector is provided. The connector includes a housing 12 having terminal accommodating chambers 15 for accommodating terminals 14 and a cover 13 overlaid on the housing 12 to define wire insertion holes 20 between the cover 13 and the housing 12. The cover 13 is provided with a fall-stop engagement part 31 which engages with respective rear ends of the terminals 14 in order to prevent them from falling out of housing 12. In order to provide the connector with a waterproof structure, a resinous cover part 3 of each covered wire 1 is welded to both housing 12 and cover 13 by ultrasonic oscillating the housing 12 under pressure while each wire 1 is inserted into the wire insertion hole 20. Further, owing to the ultrasonic oscillation, the housing 12 is also welded to the cover 13 in the resultant waterproof structure.
