    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solar cell element whose photoelectric conversion efficiency can be improved by effectively preventing recombination of holes and electrons excited by sunlight.SOLUTION: There is provided a solar cell element 10 in which a transparent conductive film 12, a semiconductor layer 13 having a pin junction or a pn junction, and a rear surface electrode 14 are laminated in this order on a glass substrate 11. The solar cell element 10 comprises: a gate insulating film 15 covering one side surface of the semiconductor layer 13, which is parallel to a laminating direction; a gate electrode 16 which covers a side surface of the gate insulating film 15 along one side surface of the semiconductor layer 13 without being electrically connected to the transparent conductive film 12 and the rear surface electrode 14; and a voltage application unit 17 for applying a voltage to the gate electrode 16.
