    • A cross-linked acrylic resin produced by (co)polymerizing a monomer composition comprising the following components (A) and/or (B) as the essential ingredient and optionally containing a component (C) comprising a monomer copolymerizable with the essential ingredient. The resin, having a long aliphatic carbon chain, has a low specific gravity and an excellent heat resistance while enjoying a high transparency. Component (A): an ester prepared from (1) a diol (a) obtained by reducing a dimer of a C11-C22 unsaturated fatty acid and/or a diol (b) obtained by reducing a dimer of a lower alkyl ester of a C11-C22 unsaturated fatty acid and (2) acrylic or methacrylic acid. Component (B): an ester prepared from (1) a triol (pa) obtained by reducing a trimer of a C11-C22 unsaturated fatty acid and/or a triol (b) obtained by reducing a trimer of a lower alkyl ester of a C11-C22 unsaturated fatty acid and (2) acrylic or methacrylic acid.

    • A monomer mixture which is useful for synthesizing polymers used as the material of various optical resins and has a hydroxyl value of 0-134 KOHmg/g. It is produced by the esterification between a mixture comprising substantially dimerdiol and trimertriol in aweight ratio of from 30/70 to 99/1 and (meth)acrylic acid or transesterification between the diol/triol mixture and a lower alkyl (meth)acrylate. The diol/triol mixture is prepared by polymerizing a feed mixture having an iodine value of 30-130 g (iodine)/100 g and comprising an unsaturated compound selected from the group consisting of C11-C22 fatty acids each having one carboxyl group and one double bond in its molecule and lower alkyl esters thereof and another unsaturated compound selected from the group consisting of C11-C22 fatty acids each having one carboxyl group and two to four double bonds in its molecule and lower alkyl esters thereof, and reducing the carboxyl groups (or lower alkyl ester groups in the case of the lower alkyl esters) of the obtained dimer and trimer molecules into hydroxyl groups.
