[Class 72] A converter used for the production of iron, steel or alloys thereof, more particularly as described in Specification 517,813, of the kind which is provided with tuyers and also with a block which can be removed and replaced by a block provided with electrodes, has a hearth 2 which is used when the blowing is being performed and a deep hearth 5 which is used when the furnace is turned into the horizontal position for use as an electric furnace.. The deepest part of the hearth 5 is directly under the electrodes which are inserted through openings 15 in a block 14 which replaces the sealing block 13 used when the blowing is taking place. Air is led through an inlet 3 into the trunnion 1 into a blast pipe 11 and so into the tuyer box 4 provided with orifice 9. Alloys or other elements contained in powdered form in a hopper 7 provided with tubes 8 leading into the orifices are fed into the bath in the furnace, a balanced air pressure being produced in the hopper by a pipe 12.

[Classes 72 and 82 (i)] In the manufacture of steel, alloy steels or irons, molten iron is introduced into a convertor and blown to remove the impurities by oxidation and combustion, the blast stopped and the slag removed, carbon or alloying elements added and the charge heated up to casting temperature by one or more electrodes inserted through openings in the walls of the converter. The carbon or alloying elements in granulated or powdered form are contained in a sealed container connected to the blast pipe of the converter so that the carbon &c. is introduced into the charge by the blast. When making alloy irons, carbon, silicon and manganese are introduced with the alloying elements, which may be in the form of ferroalloys. Examples of the alloying elements are nickel, chromium, copper, cobalt, titanium, molybdenium, manganese and silicon.

摘要： Apparatus for making films.-In the production of films of cellulose acetate &c. by the casting method, in order to control accurately the thickness of the film and also to avoid the use of gelatine, there is applied to the casting-surface a material that will permanently adhere to or be absorbed by the film material. As shown diagrammatically in the Figure, cellulose acetate is fed from a supply tank 11 via a valved pipe 12 and adjustable hopper 13 to a casting-drum 10 which receives a coating of a mixture of fusel and gallipoli oils in equal parts from a roller 17 supplied from a container 14 through rollers 15, 16. The film is led over a roller 18 through a drier 20 to a winding spindle 19. The rollers 15, 16, 17 are carried by pivotal brackets whereby the roller 17 may be adjusted in relation to the drum 10. The container 14 is so supported that it may be lowered without fouling the roller 15.

摘要： A patterned film or foil is obtained by applying a solution of cellulose acetate or similar material to a casting surface from a pouring vessel and supplying a second solution of cellulose acetate to the material emerging from that vessel. The two solutions may be of different colours or shades of colour, or one may be uncoloured. The casting surface is preferably a rotary drum or endless band upon which the solvent is evaporated from the film material. The patterning solution may be supplied from one or more auxiliary pouring vessels, the slots of which are divided in accordance with the pattern stripes desired. The first solution exerts a tractional force on the stripes of the further solution and prevents the narrow apertures from becoming blocked. The film may show ribbed effects if it is allowed to shrink during drying. As shown in Fig. 1, two pourers 10, 11 are formed by the plates 12, 13, 14, and end plates 15, 28. A doctor or stripper knife 18 rests on plate 12 and is adjusted by the screw 19. The plate 13 forming the rear wall of the main pourer 10 and the front wall of the patterning pourer 11 abuts at its lower edge against plate 14 and the matrix 21. The matrix 21 has apertures 27, Fig. 2, in accordance with the desired patterning, and it may be adjustable on the plate 14. Plate 13 is adjusted by screws 24 and together with plate 14 is pivotally mounted on a stay bolt 16. The inclination of plate 14 is adjusted by the screw 22 with ball-joint 29. In operation, the patterning solution passes into the solution, emerging from the pourer 10 on to the drum or band 17.
