    • A weight dependent, automatic filling dosage system (10) including a pump (18), controlled by a minicomputer (16), in fluid communication with a fluid reservoir (22). A connecting tube (24) provides fluid communication between the pump (18) and a syringe assembly (20). The syringe assembly (20) includes a gun body (54) having a handle assembly (58) and a barrel (52) for receiving fluid. A fluid inlet passes through the plunger assembly (70). The handle assembly (58) is connected to a shaft (60) attached to the plunger assembly (70). The system (10) includes devices for weighing (14) and restraining (12) the subject. The method of medicating subjects with varying doses of various substances includes the steps of weighing the subject and sending a weight signal to the computer (16). The computer (16) calculates the required dosage to be administered to the subject according to its weight. A dosage signal is sent to the pump (18) to fill the syringe (20) with the proper dosage. Once filled, the dosage is administered to the subject.

    • With the use of a selectable fluid path assembly, the recovery and cleaning of the liquid path line is possible. Selecting the primary use path permits a syringe assembly to be filled with fluid in a positive pressure supplied fluid system. When the secondary fluid path is selected, the fluid in the line can be reversed and with negative pressure pulled back through the line up to the pump motor and moved back into the bottle. With air following the liquid a bubble can be detected and stop the fluid reversal. With the use of a selectable fluid path assembly, the prevention of contamination of the remaining liquid in the bottle can be prevent through proper use of the fluid recovery system.

    • The syringe includes a body portion having an interior barrel chamber (670). The chamber has a fill port and a discharge port. An injection needle will be fluidly connected to the discharge port in use. The syringe includes a handle, having one portion that is moveable (the (trigger) 631). As shown in figure 2, the trigger in this embodiment is the rearward most portion of the handle. Slidable in the barrel chamber is a plunger shaft, having a plunger on its terminal end. The trigger is operationally connected to the plunger shaft, so that movement of the trigger (or activation of the trigger in an electronic trigger embodiment) results in a corresponding movement of the plunger shaft. As shown, the trigger is pivotally connected to the rear portion of the plunger shaft. Connecting to the syringe are the fluid line, and a communications cable. Communications cable will include a power lead, if needed, and communications lines for communication between the syringe and the various computers. Communicating lines/power lines are routed as needed through a cable that enters the bottom of the syringe handle (740). The power/communications are routed as needed in the syringe, here shown attached to the rear of the plunger guide (710).
