Stretching and tentering.-The clips or hooks of tentering-machines are cleaned by a brush operated by some moving part of the machine. Fig. 1 shows a brush comprising four arms g provided with brush pads h, and rotated on a spindlef by pinions e and a sprocket-wheel c meshing with the clip-chain b. The arms g are flexible and the brushes h are forced into a water-tank i by a bent bar j. A bent bar k, the height of which is adjustable by a screw l, serves to press the brushes upon the clips as they pass. The bar m is shaped to move the jaw n out of the way as the clip comes into contact with the brush. In a modification the spindle f carries a disk provided on its underside with an annular brush. It is wetted by a roller the spindle of which is carried in adjustable bearings. The bars j, k are dispensed with in this arrangement.

[Class 59.] Waste oil tins, copra, &c. are crushed between conical faces 2 of rotary discs 1 mounted on inclined axes 3, one or both discs being perforated to receive pins 18 which protrude through the discs during a portion of the rotation to perforate the tins &c. before crushing. Teeth 6 are formed in the periphery of each disc which engage with pinions 7 fixed to a shaft 8 driven by reduction gear 9. Within each disc 1 is mounted a conical disc 19 on an axis inclined to the axis 3 so that the pins 18 on the disc 19 recede into corresponding holes in the disc 1 at each revolution. The edge of the discs 1, 19 run on rollers 15, 20 respectively, the rollers 20 being adjustable in the axial direction of the cones in order to vary the projection of the pins 18 through the disc 1. The tins &c. are fed into a hopper 11 and fall between the discs where they are perforated by the pins 18 and flattened, a wedge member 14 ejecting the flattened tins into a receptacle.
