    • A rope climbing apparatus (15) comprising a frame (16), a seat (18) supported by the frame and adapted to move relative to the frame from a first position (19) to an elevated second position (20), a lower pulley assembly (21) connected to the seat, an upper pulley assembly (22) connected to the frame, a rope (23) extending between the lower pulley assembly and the upper pulley assembly and having a rope climbing portion (24) graspable by a user (25) when the user is seated on the seat, and the rope, the seat, the lower pulley assembly and the upper pulley assembly configured and arranged such that a downward force (26) on the rope climbing portion of the rope causes an upward force (28) on the seat. The downward force on the rope climbing portion may result in an upward force on the seat at a mechanical advantage provided by the lower pulley assembly and the upper pulley assembly, and the mechanical advantage may be four. The rope may comprise a first end portion (29) connected to the seat and the rope climbing portion may comprise a second end portion (30) terminating within grasp of the user when the user is seated on the seat. The first end portion of the rope may be connected to the seat via the lower pulley assembly, such that the first end portion of the rope is connected directly to the lower pulley assembly.

    • A life saving vessel has the shape of a rigid closed cylinder 1 and is reversible. The cylinder 1 has a hermetically sealable door 20 in its sidewall 15 as well as portholes 22. It also has a rigid outer skin 10 made of aluminium, an inner skin 11 contiguous with the outer skin made of asbestos and a relatively thick layer 12 of foam material contiguous with the inner skin 11 to provide insulation and buoyancy. The interior of the vessel has two vertically spaced-apart circular rows of seats 14, 14' adjacent the side wall of the cylinder. The lower row 14 adjacent the floor 13' of the cylinder 1 is upside up and the upper row 14 is upside down so that, if the cylinder 1 is overturned in heavy seas, the upper row 14 will assume right side up position and vice-versa. To this end, the cylinder 1 is symmetrical about its middle horizontal plane. Ventilation apertures 16 are provided in the upper and lower surface of the cylinder respectively and a skeletal structure 6-9 of hollow metal tubing is also provided. A support structure 24 secured to the ship deck is also provided.

Supports.-A stand or support which, in the raised position, serves as a luggage-carrier consists of brackets D, Figs. 1 and 2, connected to the axle of one of the wheels, and a plate I and disk J connected to the brackets by a pivot pin K passing through a slot G, the construction being such that the disk J and the plate I, to which the wire-frame support and luggage-carrier H is attached, can be rotated about the bracket, and, when in the luggagecarrier position, the plate and disk become firmly locked together automatically so that no extraneous fastening is necessary. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the disk J is provided with a nose-piece L, adapted in the raised position of the stand, to engage in a slot in the horizontal portion E of the bracket. The stand is lifted slightly to unlock it, whereupon it may be rotated into the lower position. In another form, Fig. 4, the plate J has a recessed portion which engages with the part E of the bracket and is maintained in this position, with the stand raised, by the spring P.
