    • 332,343. Fairweather, H. C. C., (American Coalinoil Corporation). May 25, 1929. Liquid fuel.-Mobile to semi-solid gelatinous fuels consisting of finely divided solid fuels suspended in liquid fuels are stabilized by the product obtained by neutralizing with alkali the whole of the product obtained by blowing an oxygenizing gas through a hydrocarbon oil heavier than kerosene in presence of a catalyst. Hydrocarbon oils oxidized include petroleum, the " liquid paraffin wax " thrown out in the centrifugal purification of paraffin wax, fuel oil, and oils containing a high percentage of paraffins with or without olefines. Catalysts specified are oleate, stearate, or palmitate, of a metal such as aluminium,. manganese, cobalt, or zinc. For example, still bottoms or other partially cracked product containing a high percentage of olefines and paraffins is mixed with 2 per cent of manganese oleate, cobalt palmitate, zinc stearate, or a mixture, and gradually heated to 300-350‹ C. under pressure which may reach 250 lb., while air or oxygen is blown in until oxidation to fatty acids is complete. The complete product is then neutralized, preferably with an excess of sodium hydrate or carbonate. 0.5-1.0 per cent (reckoned as anhydrous soap) is then added to a 50-50 mixture of 12-24‹ BÚ fuel oil with coal ground so that 85 per cent will pass through a screw of 200 mesh per linear inch. The complete fuel may be used alone, or mineral oil or coal tar in any proportion may be added. Alcohol, such as that obtained from molasses, may be incorporated using a saponifying agent as a vehicle; the saponifying agent thickens the oil. Solid fuels specified are coal, coke, peat, and waste cellulosic matter from pulp mills or beet sugar refineries. They may be reduced to colloidal size if desired. Liquid fuels specified are coal tar, mineral, vegetable, or animal oils, fractions thereof, mixtures, and waste, molasses, with or without alcohol. Vegetable oils specified are corn oil, cottonseed oil, sesame oil, rape seed oil, castor oil, " foots " of such oil; they are preferably hydrogenated to raise the viscosity. Specification 286,260 is referred to.
