摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a differential gear and a power transmission device which rapidly responds to engagement and disengagement between a vehicle power transmission device and vehicle, and reduces cost. SOLUTION: This differential gear 14 comprises a first, second, third structures, a differential gear set, and a bias mechanism. The first structure rotates around a differential shaft depending on a rotational input. The second structure is held to rotate around a differential axis. The third structure is held to rotate around the differential axis and is placed between the first and second structures. The third structure operates in an engaged state for transmitting a torque from the first structure and the second structure and in a disengaged state for inhibiting a transmission of the torque from the first structure to the second structure. The differential gear is connected to the second structure and is held to be rotational in the second structure. The bias mechanism gives a bias to the third structure in the disengaged state. The third structure is positioned in the engaged state when an amount of torsion of the rotation input exceeds that of a rotation force exerted through the differential gear set by a given amount.

SOLUTION: A differential device case 40 has a drum 50 provided with a radial direction flange 50a having an aligned installing hole 54. The drum 50 has a plurality of axial direction holes which are communicated with each other and which are communicated with a center chamber 62, namely, has gear pockets 64, 66. The gear pockets 64, 66 are arranged in a circumferential direction in parallel with a rotary axis of a case 40 with set. For reducing abrasion between teeth of a pinion gear and a wall surface corresponding to the gear pockets 64, 66, a plurality of hardening tracks 80 are formed in the gear pockets 64, 66. The hardening tracks 80 extend in parallel with each other in a longitudinal direction for instance.

The pair of opposite circular edge portions have radiuses slightly larger than the radiuses of a pair of pinion gears, to permit the approach of the pinion gears into the chamber, and the subsequent matching to another axial line in the longitudinal direction. Thus, the gear constitution part of the differential case 112 can be simply assembled by the assembly window 122a, to improve structural and functional characteristics in one side.

SOLUTION: A hybrid ball stud 12 includes a bolt 26 having a shaft part 28 in which an outside screw 30 is formed and a head part 32. The bolt 26 is a standard 'stock' of a round-head bolt 26. The head part 32 of the bolt 26 has a semi-spherical shape and sections an outside surface 34 engaged to an inner wall surface of a socket. An outside surface 42 of an insert 36 of a polymer material is engaged to an inside surface of the socket. The radius of the insert 36 of the high polymer material is the same as that of the head part 32 so as to form a spherical ball 44 held on the socket in cooperation so as to perform angular motion for a housing and a liner. Therefore, the ball stud 12 can be manufactured and assembled by using the inexpensive and standard round-head bolt 26.

In another embodiment of the device, a pair of locking clips are connected to the cross pin.
