Terminals 20 for making external connections are sealed through the container by metal to glass seals.

[Class 38 (i)] A connector for coaxial cables comprises identical halves each formed of an outer tube 1 closely surrounding an inner tube 2 in which is insulatedly mounted a strip centre conductor 3, the tubes being cut away for part of their lengths to provide mating portions when the halves are plugged together. The tube 1 is screwed into a clamping ring 22 and abuts a flange 6 on the tube 2, which flange is slotted to receive projections on the screwed end 8 of tube 1 to prevent the tubes rotating in one another. The centre conductor 3 is provided with a kink 7 and has one end turned over into an insulator 5 to prevent it and the tube shorting ; the kink increasing the contact pressure between the halves when they are plugged together. In a modification, Fig. 6, the centre conductor 17 is flat and is provided with spring fingers 18 to enhance its contact pressure. A waisted spring 19 is secured on the tube 2 to increase the contact pressure between the mating outer conductors. A mounting flange may also be secured to one connector half, thereby converting it into a jack, while the other remains a plug (Figs. 8A, 8B, not shown).

[Class 100 (ii)] Characters are engraved into the face of a plate 1, Fig. 3a, to a certain depth as shown in Fig. 3b, the plate 1 being thicker than the final stencil, or having a backing plate secured to it. A shallow groove 6 is then cut across an enclosed portion 5 of a character, and a tie-strip 7 inserted therein, which may be soldered or otherwise attached to the portion 5 or to the main portion of the plate or to both. Alternatively, the groove 6 may be dispensed with and the strip 7 fixed across the surface of the character. The back face of the plate is now cut off to such a depth that the characters extend through the plate, or if a backing plate was used this is removed with the same result.

[Class 36] [Also in Group XI] A tool for stripping cable insulation such as polyvinyl chloride comprises a pair of pivoted metal blades adapted to embrace the covering, one of the blades carrying an electric heating element. The tool comprises jaws 19 on blades 11 pivoted at 12 and having shanks 14 with hardwood handles 15. The pivot 12 consists of a screw carrying heater element 25 in contact with one blade, and wound on a mica former 24 and mounted in a steel saucer 21 having a steel lid and insulating cover. One end of the element is brought out to an insulated terminal 29 and the other end is secured to the steel cup and connects through screw 12 to the same blade which carries a terminal mounted on the same bolt as terminal 29. A twin flex 32 passed through one handle connects with the terminals. A piano-wire spring 17 tends to keep the jaws apart.
