    • The invention relates to an instrument transformer, in particular to a current transformer, comprising a primary winding, a secondary winding and a housing (1) for accommodating the secondary winding, the primary winding being wound onto the exterior of the housing (1). In order to prevent the instrument transformer from being damaged by high short-circuiting currents on the primary side, a fixing device (2) is provided for fixing the lateral position of the coils (10) of the primary winding in relation to the housing. This is preferably achieved by fixing grooves which are arranged on the surface of the housing or by other suitable means. The housing (1) can be toroidal with a guide pin (5) located in the central opening of said toroidal housing, which provides additional guidance or fixing of the coils on the primary side. The coils can be grouped at predetermined coil intervals, thus compensating for the forces which are exerted at high primary currents.
