    • The object of the invention is to provide an amphibious vehicle, having buoyancy tanks which can be raised and lowered, with additional wheels which can be lowered to raise the vehicle body before the buoyancy tanks are lowered. The vehicle has a watertight vehicle body (12) and at least two elongate buoyancy tanks (20, 22), with a mechanism (24, 28, 32) for displacing the buoyancy tanks (20, 22) between lowered, operative positions, in which the buoyancy tanks (20, 22) extend parallel to opposite sides of the vehicle body (12), and raised, inoperative positions, in which the buoyancy tanks (20, 22) extend parallel to one another along the top of the roof (18) of the vehicle body (12). A pair of propulsion units (46) can be lowered from the vehicle body (12) for supporting the vehicle on wheels (50) during travel into a body of water and for propelling the vehicle through the water. Each propulsion unit (46) has an elongate body (54), propellers (66) in a duct (60) extending longitudinally through the body (54) and side openings (84) from the duct (60) to permit steering by rotation of the propellers (66).

    • Apparatus for separating liquid and solid material has an auger having an auger screw and a tubular housing extending around the auger screw, the tubular housing having an opening in the top thereof to allow the solid material to be deposited through the opening into the auger screw. A screen extends around the auger and is spaced radially outwardly from the tubular housing to allow a mixture of the solid material and the liquid to be introduced between the tubular housing and the screen, whereby the liquid can flow outwardly through the screen while at least a portion of the solid material is retained on the inner side of the screen. A motor is provided for rotating the screen about the auger to allow the thus-retained solid material to fall through the opening into the auger for removal by the auger, and a filter is provided for filtering the liquid which drains through the screen, the filter and the screen being co-axially rotatable.

    • A heating system has a combustion gas chamber (34) at the exterior of a solid fuel (12) for receiving combustion gases from the (12), a chimney (18) located above the combustion gas chamber (34) and having a flue (36) for the outflow of the combustion gases, and an outlet opening (31) located at the top of the combustion gas chamber (34) and provided with a damper (32) for controlling the flow of the combustion gas upwardly through the opening (31).
