    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which is suitable for removing manganese ions from raw water.SOLUTION: A filter material 8 is composed of a core string 8a longer by a prescribed amount than the separation open distance between a porous plate 2 on the downstream side such as a butt strap composing a filter material supporting bed and a porous plate 3 on the upstream side composing a filtering chamber 1 relatively to the porous plate on the downstream side, and fiber materials 8b, 8c projected to the circumferential side of the core string 8a. Then, suitable numbers of the filter materials 8 are stored into the filtering chamber 1, and one end on the upstream side of the core string 8a is fixed to the porous plate 3 on the upstream side and the other end is fixed to the porous plate 2 on the downstream side, respectively. Further, manganese is stuck to each fiber material on the downstream side which is consolidated by the surplus length portion of the core string 8a during a filtering operation.
