    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type picture display device realizing the display of a picture suitable for observation in accordance with a video scene.
      SOLUTION: The projection type picture display device is provided with 1st and 2nd variable diaphragm mechanisms 43 and 44 in a projection unit 14. The mechanisms 43 and 44 are arranged in an illumination optical system and a projection optical system respectively and adjust an effective luminous flux diameter. A diaphragm control part 64 controls the mechanisms 43 and 44 so that the appropriate effective luminous flux diameter may be obtained in accordance with the luminance level of an inputted video signal. The effective luminous flux diameter is adjusted to be large when the luminance level is high and small when the luminance level is low. Since the peripheral light of luminous flux is cut when the effective luminous flux diameter is made small, contrast is made high. Thus, the picture is brightly displayed on the scene where the luminance level of the video is high and is displayed with high contrast on the scene where the luminance level is low.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact lens device which can be used also as a lens device for a monitor camera used night and day though the compact lens device is originally designed for another purpose by arranging a filter for correcting an image forming position and a filter inserting/pulling-out device for inserting and pulling out the filter for correcting the image forming position in/from the optical axis of a lens barrel in nearly cylindrical space formed between the lens barrel and a mount ring.
      SOLUTION: In a lens device 10, a filter switching unit 56 is arranged in the nearly cylindrical space 54 formed between the base end 14 of a lens barrel 12 and a C mount ring 16. A near infrared ray cut filter 58 has only to have a size equivalent to a relay lens 26 disposed at the base end having a small diameter, and the insertion/pulling-out stroke of the filter 58 is secured even in the narrow space 54. A motor 62 and gears 82, 84 and 86 of the filter insertion/pulling-out device 60 are arranged at a position deviated from the position of the insertion/pulling-out stroke.
