    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sensor dedicated to leak detection for measuring/inspecting the size, existence, etc. of a leak hole in about ten minutes by a detection method for a faithful leakage signal deeply connected with the size of the leak hole and having a high S/N ratio without being affected by the existence of ambient water or air even in the case of an underground tank.
      SOLUTION: A feature is sought for that only a vibration propagating through the solid interior of a material is extracted among vibrations occurring from the leak hole, the material used for forming an outer hull of a container where the leak hole exists. A detector is formed out of the same material as the material used for forming the outer hull of the container. The detector is firmly installed on the outer hull with the leak hole existing therein. The whole is formed out of the same material, inclusive of the leak hole, to obtain a feature that the leak hole and the detector turn into an integral construction, thereby obtaining faithful information deeply connected with the leak hole. Since a vibration propagating through the solid interior of a high-hardness material of the outer hull causes low loss and also a deterioration in the waveform of the vibration is minimal, a faithful leakage vibration signal is obtained. Also, its S/N ratio is high since vibration of external air, a liquid, etc. does not come into the interior of the high-hardness material.

Even if it is the underground tank, it is not influenced by surrounding ground water, air or the like, because of using a solid internal propagation type vibration detector in which outer shell of the tank vessel is used as a propagation pathway of the leakage vibration, and it is not influenced by a distance between the leakage hole and the detector and by the content inside of the tank vessel, as applying the wave form detection means of the leakage vibration.
