    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which allows for optimization of the noise figure of a variable gain hybrid amplifier (HA) including a variable gain Raman amplifier that can adjust average gain Gand gain tilt T, and a variable gain centralized amplifier that can adjust average gain Gand gain tilt T.SOLUTION: The method for optimizing the noise figure of a variable gain hybrid amplifier includes a step for acquiring the requested values of average gain Gand gain tilt Tof a hybrid amplifier 100, and a step for calculating the values of G, T, G, and Gso that the NF of the hybrid amplifier is optimized, the relation G+G=Gis satisfied, and T+Tfalls within the range of design gain tilt in the operation of the hybrid amplifier. The values of Tand Tmay satisfy the relation T+T=T. The hybrid amplifier 100 performing the method described above includes an improved control unit for controlling the average gain and gain tilt of a Raman amplifier 120 and a centralized amplifier 140 so as to satisfy the conditions described above.
