摘要： As an IV infiltration occurs and fluid leaks into surrounding tissues, several physiological changes are expected locally. The systems and methods described herein provide a scalable automated IV infiltration detection device to provide medical staff an early warning of a possible infiltration such that they can respond accordingly. The systems and methods capture the physiological state of the user at or around a peripheral catheter insertion site by incorporating one or more modalities of wearable sensing, processing the data collected from these wearable sensors, detecting the presence of extravascular fluid, and providing an indication to a medical professional.

The introduction assembly can be fluidically coupled to the aerosolizer and configured to introduce aerosolized fluids into the pulmonary tissue of a subject. Methods include aerosolizing a FC using an aerosolizer, delivering the FC to the pulmonary tissue of the subject, and contacting the pulmonary tissue of the subject with the FC. Some embodiments include cooling the pulmonary tissue. Cooling the pulmonary tissue can provide a therapeutic benefit to a living subject or it can preserve the pulmonary tissue of a deceased subject for transplantation.

摘要： Systems and methods are disclosed herein for determining the sensitivity of a target to a therapeutic formula. The systems include a measurement device for measuring properties of a target sample fluid housed within a cartridge (the cartridge having at least one test compartment and at least one control compartment). Methods can include determining the concentration of the target suspended in a target sample fluid and placing the target sample fluid into at least one test compartment comprising a first therapeutic formula. The system, via a processor, measures the properties of the sample fluid, compares the measured properties to a threshold property, determines the sensitivity of a target species to a therapeutic formula, and presents an indicator of the target sensitivity to an end user. In some embodiments, the sensitivity data can be stored to a database for later use by an adaptive machine learning tool.

摘要： Electroactive pumps and methods of their use are disclosed herein. A pump can include a container having an initial volume. The container includes a passivated conductive film extending along at least a portion of the wall and an outlet valve. Application of a first voltage to the film in a physiological electrolyte solution causes a portion of the film to swell, thereby decreasing the volume of the container to a second volume. The transition from the initial volume to the second volume is capable to dispense a fluid housed within the container through the outlet valve. For example, in some embodiments, the interior void of the container is devoid of solid moving parts and is at least partially filled with a solution (e.g., a solution containing insulin). The solution can be dispensed upon the transition to the second volume.

摘要： Devices for high throughput cell electroporation include a trapping component that at least partially defines an upper boundary of a microfluidic chamber. A cell trap array is patterned on the underside of the trapping component, and a channeling component is positioned beneath the trapping component. The channeling component includes a vertically oriented nanochannel array. The trapping component and the channeling component are positioned such that a given nanochannels is positioned beneath a cell trap. During use, fluid flow holds trapped cells in secure contact with the nanochannels beneath the cell trap. The device further includes upper and lower electrode layers for generating an electric field to electroporate trapped cells via the nanochannel array. A reservoir positioned beneath the channeling component can be filled transfection reagent solution. During electroporation, the transfection reagent solution travels through the nanochannel array during to transfect the trapped cells.

摘要： Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for treating and preventing neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease. In some embodiments, the composition comprises a peptide that disrupts the binding between PTPs and APP, preventing β-amyloidogenic processing of APP without affecting other major substrates of b- and γ-secretases. Alternatively, in some embodiments, an antibody or a fragment of an antibody against PTPs or APP may be used to disrupt the binding between PTPs and APP. In some embodiments, the composition comprises compounds or enzymes, which restore perineuronal balance of PTPs ligands CS and HS, thereby preventing abnormally increased β-amyloidogenic processing of APP. Compositions and methods disclosed herein can be used in combination to treat and prevent neurodegenerative diseases.

摘要： Disclosed herein are oligonucleotides and methods for detecting a target nucleic acid, as well as methods of diagnosing a subject with a disease or a disorder by detecting a target nucleic acid using the oligonucleotides and methods disclosed herein. The oligonucleotides include a quadruplex-forming sequence. Prior to binding the target nucleic acid, the quadruplex-forming sequence is in a non-quadruplex conformation. Upon binding the target nucleic acid, the sequence transforms to the quadruplex conformation, which can be detected, for example, using optical methods. The methods are based on thermodynamic properties and do not require the use of enzymes. The methods can be used to diagnose a subject with a disease or a disorder, prognose the outcome of a disease or disorder, or predict the development of a future disease or disorder.
