    • Aspects of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatuses for improved throughput for network subscriptions in multi-SIM, multi-standby wireless devices by altering a tune away frequency to another network subscription based on throughput level or communication link parameters. For example, the present application provides a method of tune away in a wireless system, which includes initiating a data session via a first subscription in a multi-subscriber identity module, multi-standby user equipment, determining that a data rate associated with the data session is less than a threshold data rate value, establishing a modified tune away frequency based on the determining, and tuning a radio resource away to a second subscription based on the modified tune away frequency. Through such operation, throughput on an active subscription in such user equipment can be dynamically maximized.

    • In a mobile communication device having multiple subscriber identification modules (SIMs), the processing of cell broadcast service (CBS) messages is optimized. It is determined, whether both a first SIM (SIM1) and a second SIM (SIM2) camp on the same PLMN. If this is the case, then a combined CBS message list comprising message IDs of CBS messages to be received is generated. This combined CBS message list includes message IDs from the individual CBS message lists of SIM1 and SIM2. Then it is determined, whether SIM1 and SIM2 moreover camp on the same cell. If this is the case, then it is sufficient when only one of SIM1 and SIM2 monitors and processes CBS messages from the combined CBS message list and a selected one of SIM1 and SIM2 is correspondingly instructed. If however, SIM1 and SIM2 camp on the same PLMN but on different cells, then the geographic scope indication of a received CBS message is analyzed and only if the geographic scope indicates "PLMN-wide", then the same handling as described above is carried out.

    • Methods and apparatus for communicating different size coded blocks of information in a wireless sectorized communications cell are described. Information may be categorized and formed into large, medium, and small coded blocks which may include error correction code bits based on the number of bits representing the information, time criticality of the information, and tolerable level of interference. Channels with full tone overlap between adjacent sectors, channels with no tone overlap between adjacent sectors, and channels with partial tone overlap between adjacent sectors are used for different size blocks. Some tones corresponding to a channel with less than full tone overlap are left unused in an adjacent sector thereby achieving less than full transmission tone overlap. Large transmission blocks are transmitted using full tone overlap channels; medium transmission blocks are transmitted using partial tone overlap channels; small transmission blocks are transmitted without using transmission tone overlap in adjacent sectors.
