摘要： A system and method for delivering microbeam radiation therapy (MRT) includes a computed tomography scanner configured to generate tomographic images of a subject, or patient, which includes imaging apparatus, a gantry with an opening for positioning the patient therein, an axis of rotation around which the gantry rotates, and an x-ray source mounted to and rotatable with the gantry. The system includes a bed for patient positioning within the opening and a multi-slit collimator removably mounted downstream of the x-ray source for delivering an array of microbeams of MRT to a targeted portion of the patient. Switching between MRT and CT is provided, and MRT modes of operation include a stationary mode, and continuous and step-wise rotational modes.

摘要： A photovoltaic device is provided that includes a first electrode layer and a second electrode layer; and a waveguiding structure disposed between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer which includes an active layer adapted to convert photons transmitted to the active layer to electrons and holes. The waveguiding structure further includes a first layer adjacent the first electrode layer that includes a hole-conducting material having a first index of refraction, and a second layer including an electron-conducting material having a second index of refraction, wherein the active layer is disposed therebetween. The active layer has an index of refraction that is less than each of the first index of refraction and the second index of refraction and a thickness. The waveguiding structure is characterized by guided modes adapted for optically confining the photons within the active layer.

摘要： A device for enhancing transmission of incident electromagnetic radiation at a predetermined wavelength is presented that includes an aperture array structure in a thin film. The structure includes a repealing unit cell having more than one aperture including a first aperture and a second aperture, wherein a parameter of the first aperture differs from that of the second aperture. The unit cell repeats with a periodicity on the order of or less than said predetermined wavelength, The structure parameters are configured to preferentially support cavity modes for coupling to and enhancing transmission of a predetermined polarization state at the predetermined wavelength. By structuring the unit cell with apertures that differ by appropriate degrees in at least one of dimension, height, dielectric constant of material filling the apertures, shape, and orientation, the devices can be adapted for polarization and/or wavelength filtering- and/or light circulating, weaving, or channeling.

The connecting element maintains the open position without elastic return and is returnable to the closed position by twisting the ends to close the gap upon assembly of components. A kit comprises the components and, optionally, a tote bag for carrying them.

The method comprises immersing a fibrous media comprising a material having a melt flow index of less than 150 MFI in a stable antitoxin solution comprising an antitoxin, preferably triiodide. The wet media is processed through rollers, thereby forcing the antitoxic molecule (e.g ., iodine) to penetrate the media. The wet media is dried, and the fabric isolated therefrom. The invention further provides products incorporating the antitoxic media formed by this molecularly grafting method, including a wound dressing, surgical drape, privacy curtain, facemask, gown, article of protective clothing, shoe covering, hair covering, air filter, medical tape, and wipe.
