摘要： A "memory" mirror system having a mirror 19 mounted within convex-shaped mirror movement boundaries, two constant speed motors 16,18 each controlling an axis of mirror movement, position feedback signals 26,28 from each motor, push button inputs 12 and an electronic controller 10, is provided with automatic mirror repositioning that drives the mirror from a start position to a "memory" position in minimum time without colliding with any mirror movement boundaries by turning ON the motor, in the direction of the target, whose movement axis is the greatest distance from the target and turning ON the other motor, in the direction of the target, if the direction toward the target is also toward the center of the mirror movement pattern (i.e., away from the nearest boundary).

摘要： A view control prism display system in which the viewable angle of an informational display (15) is controlled and limited to certain desired areas (17) by utilizing the reflective and refractive properties of an optical prism element (10) used in association with the informational display. In the exemplary application of a button (6B) in an instrument cluster in a vehicular environment the informational display is included as an applique (15) on a flat surface provided adjacent to but spaced from the optical prism by an air gap (14). A further, "decorated" surface (13), which can be painted black or be frosted, is provided on an adjacent, bottom surface of the optical prism. Within the desired viewing angle in front (11) of the button, the viewer will see the refracted image of the information contained on the applique, while those outside (18) of the desired viewing angle will see the reflected image of the non-informational decorated surface. Likewise, by properly designing the angles of the various surfaces of the optical prism and the locations of the two surfaces, the informational image will not be projected onto the interior side of the windshield, which is located outside of the desired viewing range of angles, preventing any daytime or nighttime reflections from being generated on the windshield or, if so designed, any of the side windows.

摘要： An improved method of forming a vehicle trim part includes the initial step of securing an insert (26) to a vinyl-skin (32) in a vacuum mold (22). The cloth insert (26) is attached to the outer face of the skin (32), and the two are then placed into a foam mold (36, 48) as a single preform. In this way, if the cloth (26) is improperly connected to the skin (32), the part can be identified as scrap before foam (50) is injected to complete the part. Since the preform (35) is moved into the foam mold, foam (50) is injected behind the part. Since the preform (35) is positioned within the mold as a single part, the invention more accurately positions the insert (26) and skin (32) relative to the mold prior to faom injection. Again, this improves the quality and appearance of the vinyl part.
