    • Disclosed are a method for preparing a sintered body containing cubic boron nitride which comprise the steps ofcontacting a starting material containing boron nitride and/or a starting material containing at least one selected from the group consisting of metals of groups IVa, Va and Via of the periodic table, silicon, aluminum, iron group metals and compounds of the aforesaid metals with at least one selected from the group consisting of borazine, a borazine derivative and a compound composed of boron, nitrogen and hydrogen as will release hydrogen by a thermal decomposition under pressure to form boron nitride; andsintering the material under conditions of a predetermined pressure and temperature under which cubic boron nitride is kept stable; and a method for preparing cubic boron nitride which comprises, in addition to the above steps, recovering cubic boron nitride from the obtained sintered body by a chemical and/or physical manner.These methods are considered to be greatly valuable from the viewpoint of industrial usefulness, because of being simple, very high in efficiency and excellent in economy.

    • : Silicon nitride sintered body and method for preparing the same There are disclosed a silicon nitride body comprising (A) 0.5 to 25 % by weight of at least one of oxides, nitrides and oxynitrides of rare earth elements consisting of Sc, Y and lanthanide elements; (B) 0.5 to 25 % by weight of at least one of oxides, nitrides and oxynitrides of elements consisting of Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Ra in group IIa and/or of nitrides and oxynitrides of elements consisting of B, A1, Ga, In and Tl in group IIIb of the periodic table; and (C) a remainder including Si3N4 and inevitable impurities; provided that the case where a combination of (A) at least one of the oxides of the rare earth element with (B) at least one of the oxides of the elements in group IIa and a combination of (A) at least one of the oxides of the rare earth element with (B) at least one of the oxides of the elements in group IIa and nitrides of the elements in group of IIa are excluded, and a method for preparing the same. The silicon nitride sintered body of this invention has excellent wear resistance and toughness, and are suitable for an industrial production of materials for heat resistant structures.

    • QUICK-CHANGE TOOL A quick-change tool comprises a shank assembly and a cutting head cartridge detachably mounted on the shank assembly. The cartridge supports thereon a cutting insert and is provided with a receptacle engaging portion on the rear end portion thereof. The shank assembly comprises a shank body having an axial bore and a draw bar slidably held in the axial bore. The draw bar is provided with a plug engaging portion on its front end. The engaginq portions are provided with flat engaging surfaces. The cartridge is fixed to the shank assembly by rearwardly drawing the draw bar with the engaging portions being engaged with each other. The shank body is provided with a step-like extension extending forwardly from the lower part of its front end surface below the axial bore. A key member adapted to be snugly received between a pair of laterally opposed walls on the cartridge body is fixed to the step-like extension. The receptacle engaging portion is formed of laterally opposed side walls and a cross bar portion connecting the upper ends of the side walls. A laterally elongated upper abutment surfaces are formed on the rear end surface of the cross bar portion and on the front end surface of the shank body. Laterally elongated lower abutment surfaces are formed on the front end surface of the step-like extension and the rear end portion of the cartridge body. When the cartridge is fixed to the shank body the upper abutment surfaces abut against each other, the lower abutment surfaces abut against each other and the receptacle engaging portion rests on the step-like extension with the key member received between the walls.
