[Class 70] A clamping appliance for use in vulcanizing repair patches on rubber articles comprises a body member 3, Fig. 1, of substantially C-shape; a clamping platform 7 at the one end and a cantilever arm 4 at the opposite end of the body member; the body member, clamping platform and the cantilever arm being formed by sheet metal press operations: a guideway 10 at the outer end of the cantilever arm substantially - perpendicular to the surface of the clamping platform; a stem 11 slidable in the guideway; a clamping member 13 at one end of the stem; and a cam member 15 pivotally mounted at the end of the cantilever arm adapted to bear upon the opposite or outer end 12 of the stem so as to force the clamping member towards the clamping platform. A helical tension spring (not shown) may be connected to the clamping member 13 and the arm 4.

[Class 24] A driving-chain comprises a.plurality of wire links A, Fig. 4, connected together by sheet metal connectors B, Fig. 5, the assembly of the chain being effected as indicated in Fig. 3. Each link comprises a length of wire bent to substantially rectangular shape, the two ends being joined as by flash welding. Recesses 4 and 5 are formed on opposite sides of one arm 2 of the link, preferably by stamping operations. The connectors comprise two curved portions 6 joined by a flat portion 7 having opposite end extensions 8. The spaced edges 9 of the portions 6 are separated by a distance less than the thickness of the wire of the links, so that in assembling the chain it is necessary to turn the links to an upwardly extending position relative to the direction of the chain, whereupon the recess 4 or 5 may engage one edge 9 of the connector, and the link can then be slid sideways into the connector. With the links in the normal position, the end extensions 8 of the connectors limit pivotal movement in the reverse direction, thus preventing tangling of the chain, while the curved portions 6 serve to retain a lubricant such as grease within the connector.

[Class 12 (i)] A shaft bearing comprises a base-plate 5 and supports 6, 7 welded thereto which engage the externally reduced end portions of a separate bearing member 8 having a bore 13 of the desired size, thus supporting the bearing member and locating it axially. The baseplate is secured to a mounting 9 by bolts 10. Additional recesses may be formed in the external surface of the member 8 intermediate its ends, and may be engaged by intermediate supports pressed out of the base-plate 5. In a modification, the supports 6, 7 are formed integrally with the base-plate 5. The bearing member 8 may be formed of sintered bronze. An oil hole 14 is provided in the member 8.
